Meta changes hate speech rules, dropping LGBTQ protections the hill

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, dropped some LGBTQ protections from its hate speech rules Tuesday amid a wider overhaul of the social media giant’s content moderation practices.

Under its newly updated policies on hateful conduct, Meta will allow users to accuse LGBTQ individuals of being mentally ill despite otherwise prohibiting such content.
“We do allow allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation, given political and religious discourse about transgenderism and homosexuality,” Meta’s policies read.

The updated language also permits users to argue for “gender-based limitations of military, law enforcement, and teaching jobs,” as well as similar content based on sexual orientation when tied to religious beliefs.

Zuckerberg also announced that the social media giant would alter its policies on some divisive issues like immigration and gender.

Zuckerberg, who has long had a rocky relationship with President-elect Trump, has appeared keen to mend fences with Trump since the election, meeting with the president-elect at Mar-a-Lago and donating $1 million to his inaugural fund.
Trump praised Meta’s announcement Tuesday, saying the company has “come a long way.” When asked if the move was Zuckerberg responding to his threats against him, the president-elect said, “Probably.”

At some point does he ever get anything beyond fines for repeated contempt charges? He can't pay what he owes already additional fines don't mean anything to him.

It's always the people around Trump who take the fall for him...

Rudy reaches agreement with the GA election workers he kept defaming to keep his houses and a few other things. Agreement is that neither side will defame the other in the future. Looks to me like he dragged things out and made the process so painful that they gave in.

"The former lawyer for President-elect Donald Trump was set to appear in court on Thursday. The deal was announced after he did not show for several hours.

Giuliani wrote in a post on X that the agreement will let him to keep his New York and Florida homes and "all of my personal belongings".

Ms Moss and Ms Freeman said in a statement that they had agreed to allow him to keep the belongings in exchange for "compensation and his promise not to ever defame us".

"Today is a major milestone in our journey. We have reached an agreement and can now move forward with our lives," the women said in a statement, calling the past four years "a living nightmare".

How does this help the average American save on grocery's and rent?
It doesn't. And the high price of inflation is far worse than the problem of the Gulf of Mexico not being named the Gulf of America. But I doubt billionaires worry about inflation, especially since Trump wants to aggravate it with tariffs. He should at least have the mercy to exempt food from Mexico being subject to tariffs. Inflation alone is already plenty bad on food. A bag of salad from Mexico at Walmart used to cost around 98 cents. Now it's around $2.00. Maybe American farmers need to be incentivized to produce more food.
