I don't see a reason to get rid of the checks in DOD (both via legal and chain of command means) without having a goal of doing something that will be potentially illegal and wildly unpopular. I.e., You don't fire lawyers if you care about following the law. To me that shows where he wants to go.

I keep telling myself that someone will stop him if he tries to do something bad, but I don't know who would step up. He loves authoritarians and admires their ability to do what they want. Who is going to stop him from being one? How do they maintain control? Oppression, generally through military and police force.

It would take the military standing up to him and saying no. Which is why they are purging the leadership there.

It’s getting more & more obvious by the day that our national parks are being gradually broken apart & privatized. Yesterday it was announced that 34 NPS buildings & leases will be closed. This includes 8 visitor centers, search & rescue buildings, & climate controlled storage for over 8 million artifacts. Remember, our parks are not just Yellowstone, they are also our museums & historic sites.
