Top Rated Party Schools

They didn’t even mention Streakers Night in the early ‘70s.

I remember the Joe’s Weekend referenced in the tweet. Pretty funny.

Yeah they had to quit doing the Eskimo Joes weekend back I think in 1995 because they had some gang bangers from Wichita and Tulsa show up and the two rival gangs had a shoot out late in the evening on I believe the last night and the then Mayor of Stillwater at the time said NO MORE!!! 🤔

Unfortunately yes. The crowds were getting out of control huge as well.

So, the mayor held an election to reban drinking in the streets and parks. Since the majority of OSU students were too young to legally drink, they didn't care and didn't vote, so the ban was restored.

In 1975 when I arrived at OSU, it was definitely the top party school in the country. Second month I was here there was a three day festival at Lake McMurtry called the.KumonIWannaLaya Luau. Kinda like 48 hours in Atoka or Woodstock or something like that. Half the campus was out there for three days, listening to bands, drinking kegs in 50 gallon trash barrels and using Porta potties. I spent the rest of my college career trying to get my GPA back up after that first year. You could drink anything back then at 18 years old and the freshman dropout rate was pretty high.

They had a Playboy poll back then in the mid to late 70s for top party schools and I don’t remember who they picked number one, maybe Ohio State or something but at the bottom there was an Asterix and it said:
“Oklahoma State University not included in this poll, this is not a professional poll”.

In other words, basically saying that we were light years ahead of any other school when it came to partying. That was back when the strip was fully alive. It was common place for students from Norman to come to Stillwater to party because their school was boring as hell compared to Stillwater.

I remember one bedlam weekend some dumb OU girl in a crimson red Vega Station wagon tried to drive that thing down the strip when the streets were full of drunk poke fans and a bunch of wrestlers (and others) rocked that thing back-and-forth and turned it upside down in front of Pistol Patties with the chick sitting upside down clinging to the steering wheel crying! Those were some crazy times!

When I went in the 90's I thought it was OK, until I went to other schools. UT, Az St,San Diego St and UC Santa Barbara are gold standards.

The house party scene has virtually vanished in Stillwater which is super sad. I feel you need low priced living options to make a good party scene stick; and there's too much new constructions; Coney Island is a step in the right direction, but the party scene in Stillwater is nowhere near where it should be too much eminent domaining and too much corporate land lording. The indie scene is almost non existent and that's kind of sad.

Alcohol consumption is down nationally and the accessibility of weed has made socializing less of a priority.

The litigation of fraternity houses has moved alcohol out of the houses and the socialization of students has suffered. It's probably helped GPAs, less unwanted advances, and fights, but Stillwater is clown shoes compared to what it used to be.

Blame the college. They’ve bought everything close to campus.

The never bothered me until early last month. In the 2-3 weeks between the last fb home game and the first home bball game we attended, 711 N. Duck was removed from the face of the Earth. I lived there in '78-79, then my little brother rented it from Fall '81 through his graduation in May '84. His only complaint was Mr/Mrs Gage (at Gage Western Wear, downtown), every time he saw them, told him how nice I was. It could only have been because I hand delivered the rent check, every month and on time. I'll miss seeing it every time I'm in town.
