Official Game Thread of Disappointment: OSU vs Tulsa

Those 7 quarters was Gundyball. Let’s be done with it in a respectful way that doesn’t destroy the university athletics. What would Boone do?
Respectful? With the guy who insulted the fans after the turd he rolled out there last season?

Gtfo, he already played us for chumps and chose to stick around and deepen the decay. Respectful is out the window with this dbag. Won’t be any school ringing his phone.

In the college football power index, OSU is now ranked #113 out of #128 FBS football teams. Offense is ranked #112. Defense is ranked #114.

Yikes. Save Oregon, we're not even in the toughest part of the schedule. Doing a quick bit of crunching some numbers, if the season continues the way it's going, OSU will be ranked dead last in all of FBS.

The best HC of all-time retired the year before NIL. Nick Saban knew what was going to happen. Many others followed suit.

We can be mad all we want while pointing the finger at the most successful OSU HC of all-time. The NIL destroyed college football. NIL destroyed Oklahoma State football. It's sad. It really is. It doesn't matter who the HC is.. unless OSU football receives a massive influx of NIL monies, OSU will be a perpetual and perennial bottom feeder of the FBS. The golden era is sadly over.

Damn you, NIL. Damn you to hell.

Posted from another site, Pete Thamel on gameday said "I've been told by sources there is an overwhelming expectation that the coaching staff and the highest levels of administration of the athletic department are going to be overhauled at Oklahoma State IN THE UPCOMING WEEKS."

Tulsa and their war chest would beg to differ. NIL hurt, but this is a different level of suck. There is no way our NIL is 113th. This is a failure of man in charge.

If Meacham really just silently went along with things as they were going up until the final 10 minutes of last night’s shitshow, and didn’t fight like hell to do anything drastically different until then…
I see that as an indictment on his judgement and he can go too.
I’m OK with not seeing that shit anymore, we’ve been full up on that for too long IMO

NIL is a factor in the downfall, but not the main. The main has been complacency, and years of it. When there were glaring issues and deficiencies, Gundy and many fans stuck their head in the sand and said “well we won 8 games, went to a bowl, all is good.” Letting assistant coaches hang around far too long, hiring unqualified candidates, etc. As changes were rapidly happening with transfer portal and NIL, Gundy stuck to the program building “culture” model which is dead in FBS. Shoot, Gundy was still talking about last night “what we’ve done the last 19 years.”

We have multiple issues obviously. One that sticks out to me is that we have no playmakers on either side. No one that steps up and makes big plays. I know coaching and scheme plays a factor obviously but we truly do not have a dude that can make game changing plays when needed and that’s a massive issue.

Yes, NIL is obviously a factor. And our leadership was asleep at the wheel on it. That’s a fireable failure no matter how you cut it. You don’t trust that the same people who missed on that are now suddenly possessing the vision to lead you forward.

Mack Brown won a national title at Texas, but it was also time for change eventually.

Our players don’t look like they want to play. No fire, no emotion, no passion, no sense of urgency. This isn’t about money. We could have a $40 million roster and we’d still suck because he (and his staffs) can’t motivate shit.

To quote @DxCowboy “I don’t know how anyone else can say otherwise.”

Probably should have done that after the Oregon game since the bye week was available to regroup.

You would cut off your nose to spite your face. Respectful is to save the university’s face.

I think for six quarters Gundy put shackles on our offense to play vanilla. Then Meacham was allowed to call the last two quarters with plays with which he has been familiar and found a grain of success. But it wasn’t enough.
We have no way of knowing who was calling the plays. In fact, I'm pretty sure I didn't see Gundy say anything at all for long stretches in the game. I would guess he was folding his arms and thinking about building a nice addition to his house for most of the game.

The NIL isn't killing football. There were great games last week, played at a very high level. I'm sure we'll see that all year and into the playoffs.

The NIL is killing football for teams with coaches who think it's beneath them (Mike and Dabo).

NIL money does not guarantee success (Texas), but it pretty much guarantees failure at the top levels if teams aren't good at it.

I agree with this. Oklahoma State is a premiere institution that should always step forward with high levels of professionalism, even if all its employees don't. Show respect for Gundy for all the years of great service to the University. Treat him well. Wish him well. And move on.
