Official Game Thread of Disappointment: OSU vs Tulsa

I’m definitely in the camp of NIL is ruining college football. Last night had zero to do with NIL though. No excuse for last night. None.

NIL has created a very top heavy product. If the way CFB is going continues, I’ll venture to say you will very rarely see upsets of the top tier group that has all of the money. I’m hoping we move in a direction of contracts and caps to balance things out.

As opposed to the top heavy product where the SEC used to pay players under the table? I am willing to bet that if the SEC gets left off of the National Championship winning stage again that there will be “changes” to NIL all of the sudden

The Big 10 may become the strongest conference becomes of quality of teams and NIL $.

The only games we are going to stand a chance in is once Hauss gets back and if the other offense is really bad. This defense is going to get rolled, even by bad offenses like last night.

We gave up 19 points and got a turnover when we really needed it. But we didn't get any sacks against an inexperienced qb and that 19 could have been 35. So I wouldn't put too much blame last night on the defense but there is certainly room to improve.

There is no excuse for not being able to produce 3 drives that end in a touchdown against Tulsa.

Not saying this is 100% on the offense but the defense didn't get rolled last night.

That’s what I’m saying, OU and the SEC used to be good cuz they could cheat and pay players a couple hundred dollars here and there under the table but once NIL started, the Big 10 has rolled the money out and the SEC can’t compete. The rules will change because SEC doesn’t like what’s happening.

I hope something happens that regulates what's going on. It's chaos right now.

Will probably ramble quite a bit here.

I don't know much about Meacham, but I can still see Gundy's fingerprints all over this offense. Maybe Meach and Mike think alike or maybe it was a condition of him getting hired. I don't know but at this point I'm sick of it. "We have to establish the run, we have to establish the run, we have to establish the run, we have to establish the run...etc." Well, whatever it is you are doing does not seem capable of establishing the run, so if that means you can't open the playbook then you better think of some other way to do it. Maybe it's the RPO that makes it harder for the O-line to run block for fear of getting too far down field. Maybe it's bad schemes, maybe it's bad personnel, maybe it's bad coaching, maybe our Assistant Athletic Director for Strength and Conditioning isn't as good as we have been told all these years.

I can still remember the comments from the South Alabama defensive players after they beat us a few years back and I was so mad that I was ready for Gundy to be fired over that (also over his crazy idea of playing 3 QB's). Then the team managed to put together a successful season and quiet the criticism....but even then, there were warning signs that all was not right (UCF for example), and we just didn't pay attention. "Our (his) offense" is stale and predictable and should have been thrown out years ago. Heck at this point, I'd rather see us bring in a triple option guy than have one more season of "our (his) offense".

And yes, our defense may be a bigger concern than the offense, it's really bad....but here's the thing, we have had success before with a bad defense and just outscoring opponents. I can accept the fact that we are never going to have enough NIL to be great on both sides of the ball, so we need to pick one side and put most of the money there.

I just feel that if we start treating this similar to the NFL, it will take away the negatives we currently have while also taking away the “pay behind the scenes” that use to take place. I think the SEC and Big 10 will oppose this model just for those reasons honestly. It’s a 3 ring circus right now.

I don't accept that we won't have enough NIL money to be competitive. But it requires a full commitment by everyone, especially the head coach, to get it done. Everyone needs an oar in the water, pulling in the same direction. We don't have West Texas oil money, true, but we have a devoted fan base who wants to win.

I mean, TU really went up and down the field on them. 430 yards of offense, 5 yards a carry. Tulsa is not a good team, or a good offense, so they stalled on several drives and kicked a bunch of field goals.

Wow, guess Oregon didn’t reinvent football. Leading Army (big NIL, I know) by 10 late in the 4th

Edit: Almost the most perfect post on this forum. Almost.

Well done.
