OC and DC Possibilities - New DC Todd Grantham, OC Doug Meacham

The meeting was scheduled on Tuesday. Everyone knew what the topic was so the assertion that someone didn’t get clued in until the last minute seems unlikely. The only way a coach that was en route turned back is if it was another DIII inexperienced guy that the BoR vetoed. But I think the real truth is that the Gundy camp (and possibly the Weiberg/Shrum camps) is gaslighting us and sadly a few of us fell for it. I do think as the smoke clears more and more people are realizing that the heroes in this story is the BoR.
I'll admit that during the chaos of that week, I perceived the BoR negatively, but over time my view has flipped 180°. It makes way more sense given all the info and context that they acted out of necessity, because the others involved wouldn't or couldn't. So the crux of our issue became inaction by our President and AD. We knew Gundy wouldn't act, but it was unknown how Shrum and Weiberg would handle this. Apparently they just...didn't....so the BoR acted, and almost gave them a vote of no confidence. Pretty concerning tbh...

Football staff changes not starting until after the board calling the session is the big smoke.

Other than the last line, 100% agree. I’m not concerned at all. But that’s just me I guess.

I'm having trouble with timelines. I thought Dunn and Nardo were fired before the special scession of the BoR. Was under the impression that the special session was more to deal with Gundy's contract/tenure since they have to appprove renegotiations or termination.

Fired before the meeting but after the meeting was announced.

I'm wondering if Gundy was resistant to AD and Pres push to renegotiate and restructure the staff and the BOR stepped in to force the issue at least partly by request. I know they (AD and Pres) weren't happy with the outcome but that could be explained as the BOR going beyond what they preferred or a dressing down simply because the BOR had to get involved.

Gundy could have easily seen writing on the wall and made the move once the meeting was announced, or it had already happened and just not been announced.

I just have trouble believing that the BOR would have acted if the Pres was telling them everything was fine, the contract was getting redone and staff were all being replaced.

The special session was:

“You two get your act together and reign in your football coach/program or we’ll do it for you.”

I am looking at the same results but from a slightly different perspective. To renegotiate the contract would have taken BoR approval anyway. I think it fell to the BoR saying these are the options you need to present to Gundy. These are the new contract terms or we can find out in court if we have cause to send you kicking rocks. Only an idiot would forgo 6 mil to roll the dice. Someone must have told him to take the money.

Just to be clear...all speculation on my part.

Carson Cunningham on the Pistols Firing podcast stated Dr Shrum and AD Weiberg requested to meet with Gundy 4 times and Gundy refused. So the BOR got involved.

IF that's true then the BOR acted appropriately. No way a coach should ever be refusing meetings with his bosses. He would have to have really been thinking he was above the program and school to think he was in a position to do that.

Haha. Gundy pulling the ol George Costanza
