Gundy is out…..

Zac is very established in the NFL. Unfortunately, we have no chance whatsoever with Zac. He's not going to take a massive step down to a disasterous situation that has become college football. No chance. Not happening.

I do know, however, the names that are being discussed. And let me tell you... It's not good. At all. I'm afraid OSU football is in dire straits. And that's an understatement of the century.

I cannot say what is going on behind the scenes. I'll just say that there is a massive power grab going on and boosters have turned their back on the madness that is going on. This refers to the entire university, not just the athletic department.

What names are being discussed?

Zac may be established but he is not proven, just got shutout by a bad Panthers team. And its his first time as a coordinator, if you want an NFL guy whose proven thats why you go with Henderson over Robinson. I do not care that Robinson played here, that doesn't mean he would be the right fit. He's not been a coordinator in college, and whens the last time hes been a recruiter? I can tell you... NEVER!

Exactly! But people can't look past the "Played at OSU" fact so they keep bringing up Robinson. I'm all for Loyal and True but with the ever evolving college landscape, which is looking more and more like the NFL we need a guy who has been there and won and is now in college winning and also recruiting/signing top talent. I have looked and don't see another coach who just won a Super bowl and is now at a top program recruiting top talent anywhere.
I don't get the have to have played at OSU crowd. So what if he uses this job as a stepping stone? If he gets poached by a "bigger" school in 3 years that means he has been winning for 3 years. Sign me the f up. If he leaves the program better than he left it, it makes it more attractive to the next guy. Plus, we all know that Stillwater has secret sauce in the water. I could see someone intending to use it as a stepping stone, spends a few years here, and then decides he doesn't want to leave.

Interesting....I spoke to a guy who is a donor and he acted like our president and other donors have big plans for us. Now, who knows the truth. But Gundy was too much like John Smith, not willing to change with the times. I don't like the NIL crap, it has ruined college sports. Gundy wasn't wrong when he said we should have separate leagues for those who want to pay or those who don't. But we either adapt or become irrelevant again.

I don't think it helps to play "what if" games. Who knows what will happen. You hire the best guy you can and hope he takes us deep in the playoffs.

What’s interesting is the gap between Gundy’s comments before the Oregon game and Weiberg’s on Tuesday.

Begs a few questions:

Is Chad being truthful about the finances? If so, is he being realistic with his view of what it takes NIL-wise to compete? I mean, if the finances are there, why the gap between our NIL and the teams we’re competing against?

With Gundy and his admitted sleeping on NIL, were he & Kenyatta pounding the table asking for more? You’d have to assume they were, or they were more lost than anyone thought.

Lastly, as alluded to in Haisten’s piece, did Mike alienate the donors to the point that they told Chad I’ll write the check, but not until Mike’s gone.

What’s done is done at this point, but I do feel like it’s time for the administration to deliver big, ie we’re stepping up the NIL budget big time. That’s as important, if not more, than who the coach is going to be.

Let’s face a few facts here:
1. The NIL is there for wrestling plus it’s the hottest ticket in town
2. Anyone on this board knew the hammer was dropping on Gundy which means the boosters probably told ahead of time and the finances started rolling in.
3. People don’t like giving money to unpleasant and difficult people which it appears Gundy became.

This leads to the conclusion that Weiberg found a way to both discredit the financial claims while making boosters look better

@Stargazer is not a reliable source of info.

That’s great and all, but it ain’t paying the bills.

Tend to agree with this and it’s what I heard from donors and O Club members last December after Gundy’s comments and attitude after a disastrous season. It’s why I felt like we were just kicking the can down the road by not moving on at the time.

I wondered about this too. Weiberg was pretty certain that the football team was sufficiently resourced (we have lots of luxury boxes, etc.), but it's hard to see if that's the case when Deion is getting $20 million at Colorado.

Given Gundy's resistance to NIL, I would tend to believe Chad on this topic. Weren't there reports last year or the year berfore that there was NIL money in the bank that Gundy refused to use?

I turned old 4 years ago, and I decided to drop my tickets of the past 27 years. The past 3 and 3 games have been outstanding. No teens or twenty something’s influencing my emotions.

Like it was meant to be apparently.

That said, I still want them to do good. I’m just retired from being a zealot.

So I watched about 5-7 minutes of Tulsa.

Few observations.

Front line could just stand there and it would stun the defense enough to buy a full second. Have them hold hands and maybe a second and a quarter.

Just stop blocking. Besides, they’re not really blocking anyway.

Play calling was disastrous. Maybe it’s all the players understand at this point or all they’re capable of. Either way, pitiful.

Lastly, Mike.

Holy smokes! That alcohol caught up with him. Needs to quit that stuff or his nose will be bulbous before 60.

There's no need for this kind of rumor mongering.

Will Gundy issue a statement or have a press conference or anything regarding his dismissal? I’m assuming he wouldn’t do a press conference but I kinda figure he will have a statement of some sort.

Curious how he’s spending his time now.

Yeah, I have zero lost love for him, but…

Probably doing whatever he wants. Not like hes hard up for money right now. Guessing he will spend the next few months relaxing and we will see him in a booth somewhere next season.

Either the administration is completely a step behind, or he said something Monday that was a line crossed.

Otherwise the timing makes absolutely zero sense.

I want to believe that Chad & Co have us heading in the right direction. But I can’t help thinking back to last January & that meeting, & now this. Makes zero sense that a guy is on the shortest possible leash, but you let him go out there for the Monday press conference, then fire him the next day.

I’ll hold out hope, but this feels really incompetent.

Or maybe the Tulsa loss was the last straw. That's not a bad reason, in my view.
