Conference Realignment - What's next?

I don’t know how to link tweetersX, but swaim is repeating unsubstantiated rumors theSEC is looking to poach big12 (after/with ACC). I’m sure it’s for clicks/views/likes/retwittrrsX
If he's saying it, you can count on it not being true.

Can we start speculating wildly over who those teams could be?

It would be kinda funny to go through all of this excitement of the Big 12’s revival, only to very happily stroll along to the SEC.

That would be hilarious. Show up to the welcoming party for the new members just to drop the news we're leaving and walk out like...

I want to be wrong about Arizona State - so can someone explain to me how they bring any value here? Outside of just making it another blow to the PAC12?
Well a few things going for them are that ASU has a huge enrollment and therefore a huge (and ever growing) alumni base. Plus they are in the Phoenix market.

I think if the B12 can get ASU, UofA, and Utah they need to strike while the iron is hot. There is strength and stability in numbers. Pac12 members were probably looking down their nose and asking how certain Big 12 schools added any value when looking at adding OU & UT and that approach essentially killed their conference. I would assume two of the schools that end up homeless (Stanford & Cal) were some of the most vocal.

The PAC is going to either fold or fade soon enough. Adding a school(s) that don’t bring real value to our conference just to try and hasten their demise is dumb, a waste of resources, and will actually hurt the B12. We’re in the catbird seat, why take just anyone to only add numbers?

I think we should add them regardless. It's been floated around that an ultimate ending number for the B1G is 20-24, I would assume same for $ec. Adding ASU and Utah takes us to a solid stable 16, and gives us room for up to 4 more once the ACC dissolves (maybe more if they're of any value at that point). Get to 16 now while you know you can, shore up a solid western presence, then grab best of the rest in a few more years to shore up the east. If the likes of NCST, Louisville, VT are available get them. If only 2, snag them and stop at 18. Last thing you want is to be in the situation again like we have been before and the PAC is in right now, where only 2 of your members getting poached puts you in dire straits and your only recourse is to add mediocrity.
A month ago I would have said this was just crazy pie in the sky talk...but today....I'm sitting here...

The 4 corner schools are good solid schools and great road trips for OSU fans.

Im excited about getting them. Plus Utah is really good right now. There are too many good teams in the Big 12 to ignore at this point.

It would be nice to win a 'ship or two over the next three years and get into the playoff.

Politely disagree. If they retain too many teams they'll add a few lesser teams and remain a "P5" conference. If we can force them into having 50%+ MWC teams I think the P5 group becomes the P4 conferences. Even with the potential of shrinking network payouts those networks will require broadcast inventory. If we can get them bidding on reduced inventory it may mitigate (or even reverse) declining payouts.

Utah 2022 ranked in the top 15 almost every week last year. Finished 10-4 and final AP ranking of 10th.
Utah 2021 finished 10-4 and final AP ranking of 12th
Utah 2019 finished 11-3 and final AP ranking of 17th

last time they had a record under .500 was 2013
Utah football is legit

Even the SEC has teams who don’t win much. Remember for every winner there has to be a loser in football.

This is going to be an issue in the SEC, and the Big 10 to a lesser extent. What happens when you get Nebraska'ed and stuggle to have a winning season for an extended period of time? Will people still attend your games?

Several "big" brands in those conferences will take a hit because of this. People want to follow winning teams.Just wait and watch.
