I guess I don't understand the benefit financially or competitively for the other schools. This feels just more being bitter at the bluebloods. Consolidation was inevitable with the money involved. I think pretty much everyone paying attention doesn't blame OU for doubling their income. We all know OSU would take an invite if it were to arrive for the same reason. I guess I'm just not that bitter about any of this, I think we ended up in a damn good spot, making good enough money, and should be competitive most years in most sports, including an easier path to the 12 team playoff. What I wish had happened was a full convention amongst the P5 members to arrange for higher pay for everyone while maintaining conferences, or divisions, that make geographic sense. If USC and UCLA want to play more games in Big 10 country, it could happen easily in that world. But here we are, every few years, something changes incrementally. I've said it a million times so sorry if I'm the broken record, but the BIG and SEC will have unequal revenue sharing by 2030. There's just no way their gonna be letting Purdue and South Carolina make $75 bazillion dollars a year, same as Ohio State and Texas.Question - with the BIG and SEC (Texas and USC) doing what they have, which started all of this, would it not behoove every other school and conference to say f**k off, we're not playing any of you guys anymore. If they're really the Power - 2, they just play one another every year and the rest of us go back to College Football. Think about it, how boring would that be? The big match up of the weekend is Ohio State versus Vandy or Rutgers at Texas. How about Purdue heading to UGA for their prime time match up? How about a match up of Northwestern versus OU in Chicago in late Nov. Or better yet, South Carolina v So Cal for a battle of the USC's. Ooohh boy talk about must watch TV. Other than a few big rivalry game,s which can't possibly even schedule all of in to a 12 game set, their entire season would be like the first 3 weeks of the year.
No one else plays them and they take their little 28 program league with the likes of Nebraska, Indiana, Northwestern, Vandy, Mizzou and Kentucky all claiming relevancy they don't have but still taking parts of the pie. Then the real bluest of blue bloods do what they do and start demanding more money (which they absolutely will including Texas in the SEC) and suddenly those programs above are getting same as the rest of us Then the super rich can go build their semi pro super league.
I realize this would never happen (I REALIZE THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN FOR THE SLOW ONES ALREADY POUNDING THE KEYBOARD) and we saw how fast the BIG reneged on their "alliance with PAC and ACC" but I thought it would be a fun concept to discuss in the doldrums.
SEC basically already does this. Bunch of cupcake non con games and then play each other.Question - with the BIG and SEC (Texas and USC) doing what they have, which started all of this, would it not behoove every other school and conference to say f**k off, we're not playing any of you guys anymore. Don't know if that would actually happen and honestly don't care, the potential of it is enough to continue instability in the PAC9. Especially now with even an outside chance that 4 schools could go B1G, the likes of AZ, ASU, and Utah have to be saying the F with the Apple offer and PLEADING the Big 12 for admittance. I would go so far as to say ASU/Utah would be happy to accept half the payout of what CU and AZ are getting, because even that roughly $15mil is still infinitely better than the maybe $5mil they'll get in the mountain west. All the major networks are starting to report this in the last 30 min
Sports Illustrated reporting that Stanford and Cal are in play now for B1G 10 too
College football expansion: Big Ten in talks about 4 Pac-12 schools, per report
So you are just fine with the goons making $60,000,000 to our $31,000,000? Really?I guess I don't understand the benefit financially or competitively for the other schools. lots of speculation that ASU and Utah may actually be in such a bad position that a conference could pick them up for 1-2 seasons for only a 1/2 share Payout.Don't know if that would actually happen and honestly don't care, the potential of it is enough to continue instability in the PAC9. That would be fine by me. If they can fold in without issue and drive a wash or even increase in revenue for everyone, welcome to your new forever home. If not, kick 'em to the curb if/when you can get better options from ACC dissolvement.lots of speculation that ASU and Utah may actually be in such a bad position that a conference could pick them up for 1-2 seasons for only a 1/2 share Payout.
Then set a renegotiating period to see if they are accepted and given full share or booted to find a new conference.
apparently the President of FSU has also been quoted in the last hr or so saying something very similar as well.
To me it’s not about being bitter but I certainly understand that point of view. Let them go have their semi pro minor league and the rest of us can get back to college football. I wouldn’t watch it any more than I do minor league baseball. Again, I know it isn’t real but competing with Rutgers getting half a billion more than we do over 10 years isn’t real either.I guess I don't understand the benefit financially or competitively for the other schools. It really sucks, but what's the alternative? We are in the best position possible considering the current landscape. So you are just fine with the goons making $60,000,000 to our $31,000,000? Really?
Rumors are that FSU and Clemson from ACC and Oregon and Washington from PAC 12 may make jump to Big 10
Rumor mill is on fire over those 4 right now
Finebaum is the chode-iest of chodes out there but he's not wrong here.
I think we should add them regardless. It's been floated around that an ultimate ending number for the B1G is 20-24, I would assume same for $ec. Adding ASU and Utah takes us to a solid stable 16, and gives us room for up to 4 more once the ACC dissolves (maybe more if they're of any value at that point). Get to 16 now while you know you can, shore up a solid western presence, then grab best of the rest in a few more years to shore up the east. If the likes of NCST, Louisville, VT are available get them. If only 2, snag them and stop at 18. Last thing you want is to be in the situation again like we have been before and the PAC is in right now, where only 2 of your members getting poached puts you in dire straits and your only recourse is to add mediocrity.I hope we don’t rush to add ASU and Utah if there’s going to be more movement and other programs on the horizon. There eventually has to be a number of schools conferences won’t exceed, right? If there are going to be some big time programs available from the ACC, I kind of want to wait and see what happens (though, that mentality is why the PAC12 is the joke it is today).
