Conference Realignment - What's next?

I think we should add them regardless. It's been floated around that an ultimate ending number for the B1G is 20-24, I would assume same for $ec. Adding ASU and Utah takes us to a solid stable 16, and gives us room for up to 4 more once the ACC dissolves (maybe more if they're of any value at that point). Get to 16 now while you know you can, shore up a solid western presence, then grab best of the rest in a few more years to shore up the east. If the likes of NCST, Louisville, VT are available get them. If only 2, snag them and stop at 18. Last thing you want is to be in the situation again like we have been before and the PAC is in right now, where only 2 of your members getting poached puts you in dire straits and your only recourse is to add mediocrity.
I agree. If the ACC is poached, that puts the BIG and SEC at 20 or 24, we’ll be able to expand too with the leftovers who bring value in line with our contracts.

The entire situation is dreadful with the likes of Colorado joining, and Arizona, possibly ASU, joining the Big 12. But I had thought that the Big 12 would've disbanded within next 10 years. Looks like that will not come to fruition. That's a good thing. We could've been in the same situation as the PAC 12 is now... The PAC 12 is probably toast. Glad it's them and not the Big 12. Still, would've been nice to land a program like Oregon, even though adding Oregon would never be a remote possibility

At this point, I see the big 12 adding Arizona, ASU and Utah from the PAC.

I would pick up Miami, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Pitt, Louisville, UNC, Duke and Nc State.

24 team conference

So you are just fine with the goons making $60,000,000 to our $31,000,000? Really?
No one is OKAY with it, but that is reality of the situation. Stop acting like there is something that could have been done differently. The best course of action is for the Big 12 to continue what it has been doing. Hunker down and show their value. I firmly believe the Big 12 will significantly narrow (not close mind you) the revenue gap over the next decade. We are not fading away to the B1G and SEC. Then when the next round of media rights comes along I think we might just see a power conference merger that includes the Big 12.

Zero chance UNC and Duke end up in the Big 12. They'll both go B1G or split between that and $ec. Only realistic targets here are NCST, VT, Louisville, Pitt. Georgia Tech ya might get but why would you want them?

I want to be wrong about Arizona State - so can someone explain to me how they bring any value here? Outside of just making it another blow to the PAC12?

Again, why do we want Utah? BYU delivers the Utah TV's and Utah (IMHO) just dilutes the what BYU has delivered. I'm not crazy about UConn, but they bring another set of eyes in another region.

This is 100% my thinking. It feels like our main motivation is just destroying the PAC12 for reasons.

Again, I’m happy to be wrong and I’m sure there are plenty of people here who know more about those schools than I do. I just don’t see the value.

ASU locks down the entirety of Arizona, has a huge student body, great past athletic success with good potential for future success, and yes deals a death blow to the PAC.

Utah is a P5 so brings that perception with it, has a larger endowment, keeps the Holy War intact (rivalries are very beneficial to exposure and intrigue), is on an upswing in football success, doesnt appear to need a complete overhaul to compete in all sports, and doesn't even further stretch out your already very extended geographical footprint.

The #1 goal of expansion right now is ensuring survival, and the best way to do that is killing the PAC for good while getting to 16. Uconn is a small G5 with limited success outside of basketball. Odds are they'll still be available to move up to a power conference years from now if we still want to add them.

We would have taken Utah over BYU in a heartbeat if they had been available a year ago. And TV subscriptions aren't the model anymore, so good matchups that draw viewers is more important than "can't have 2 in one state." That era is over.

Yep, they would give us some much needed cred. They took USC to the woodshed twice last season.

I don’t know how to link tweetersX, but swaim is repeating unsubstantiated rumors theSEC is looking to poach big12 (after/with ACC). I’m sure it’s for clicks/views/likes/retwittrrsX
