Coach Gundy

He isn’t going anywhere, you are correct! I still say I am beginning to think Wieberg and Shrum just shrug their shoulders until you see it really effect the bottom line via lots of empty seats and unsold tickets, and a downward trend in donations coming in!
I'm not sure what else can be expected. There is a contract in place and maybe that rolling extension can be removed but, removing him without cause will cost $$$. With cause....I have some ideas. Next year's season ticket sales and donor support will be telling. If the money is there then I wouldn't expect much to change.

My understanding is that gundys rolling 5 year perpetual contract cannot be changed. He can be fired for cause or bought out at 75% of the remaining contract so fork over 28.1M.

I don’t think gundy wants to quit but he will be forced to change both coordinators and possibly oline coach.

I think the rolling extension has to be agreed upon by both parties to take effect. So it should be easy to end, but the automatic raise would still be in effect. Not sure what the effect on buyout if his contract doesn't auto extend.

If we have to wait for next season tickets and donor money (i.e. next summer) it will be REALLY late to make a coaching change. But might trigger a change after next season, assuming we don't do something weird like win the conference.

Yeah, we're screwed unless some donors want to pony up to give him the boot. I've never wanted to be wealthy more in my life. I've been a fan of Gundy's for a long time. I've disagreed with him on things, and think he has obvious shortcomings that have been hidden by the generosity of Mr. Pickens. However, his comments have completely turned me off to him. I want to see him out, even if we do take a step back. I don't think we will (I mean, it's hard to go backwards from where we are at right now), but it's a risk worth taking.

It's also a perfect time. We have a very inexperienced team next year regardless, so the inevitable churn that will happen with a coaching change is less impactful. Man, I wish I had $30 mil to burn..

It sounds like he wants to get fired. Maybe he's ready to retire but is holding out to get the buyout. If true, that is a terrible way to treat the university that has given him so much. If you don't want to be here, then retire and let us move on.

It seems to me that he stands by his comments. I think no apology at all is better than this. I would be surprised if this is the response that leadership or the PR department wanted. This seems ridiculous given the fact that we are 0-6 in conference play and looking at additional losses. Too bad his buyout is so high.

not sure what i expected but this feels very empty

Could see him feeling some way if people were publicly up in arms after Utah or KSU. A couple losses against (supposed at the time) the upper tier of the conference shouldn't earn the kind of vitriol his comments were directed towards.

BUT....this is after solidifying our spot alone at the bottom of the conference standings with 6 conference losses in a row at what is widely considered the most important turning point in the history of the program. Those losses (other than a chunk of the BYU game) looked lazy, weak, uninspired, and the most frustrating of all-THE SAME. Same ineffective QB play, same unimaginative offense, same weak scheme defense....

His comments would be stupid at any time. At the current time, they are incredibly stupid and indefensible.

If you had $30mm to burn you would use it for this????☠️😂

There is a 0% chance Gundy apologizes, lol. IF he says anything, it will be along the lines of "Sorry you snowflakes got offended, lulz."

I wouldn't be more shocked if I woke up with my face superglued to the carpet.
It was 100% he would be forced to issue some sort of statement.

It was also 100% exactly what we all expected it tot be, just like you said.

Also, when the football team has a good season, the University typically racks up more in donations to the general (non-athletic) side of fundraising. More engagement = more times to hit up for potential donors.

With football income goes smaller sport budget. What happens to equestrian, softball, wrestling etc when we are conf bottom feeders and making jack nothing from football?
