Whether we like to do it under the radar is neither here nor there. The idea that it'll help save recruits is a farce! As a matter of fact, it could help lure recruits if you hire the right guy. Our QB commit had previously received an offer from the OU OC when he was at WSU. They had an existing relationship, and he was able to flip him at the new job. We don't value recruiting, we value coaching, which is evidenced by our budgets and the results they provide.
This is the national recruit rankings for this year, recruiting budget (2022 numbers from CBS), total coaching salaries (USA today)
TCU - 21, Private, private
CU - 34, $770K $10.6Mil
BU - 35, Private, private
KSU - 37, $842K, $10.4Mil
ASU - 42, $462K $9.0Mil
Utah - 43, $1.2Mil $14.1Mil
WVU - 47, $971K $7.6Mil
UH - 48, Nonp5 $8.3Mil
TTU - 49, $930K $9.4Mil
AZ - 52, $1.3Mil $7.9Mil
ISU - 53, $804K $8.8Mil
BYU - 45, Private, Private
OSU - 58, $455K (low in US) $14.1Mil
Cincy - 60, Nonp5 $8.3Mil
KU - 61, $841K $11.8Mil
UCF - 75, Nonp5, $8.4Mil
We could legitimately reduce salaries by 4 million, reallocate that to recruiting, and be competitive in salaries with every team in the conference not named Utah, and have a recruiting budget 4x the rest of the conference, and more than $1million larger than every team in the country except georgia!
This is a perfect representation of the Oklahoma Public school system. Very little money going to teachers and students and a massive amount of wasted money being spent on too many administrators. Definitely need to cut the coaching salaries and redirect that money toward recruiting.
