It is the hardest part after all.Wonderful. This means, if we're going after a good coach on good bowl bound team we'll be waiting a while.

I've never understood this kind of thinking. How does it help them to keep it quiet. The jobs they are going after know what's going on so it's not like it's going to hurt their chances if it's made public. Plus, you'd think making their availability public might mean more potential offers coming in. Just seems to be no down side to making it public, and possibly an upside to do so.Why don't we look at Gundy's history for a little context on why no information yet. He has always preferred to give guys he is letting go a chance to find a new job instead of just announcing they are being fired. He has also preferred to just announce the new coach, and subtly in the small print mention who that coach is replacing. It is a way to not rake the coaches being let go over the coals. Right or wrong this is the way he has done things in the past. So much so that many think he has never fired a coach, he has, it just was done as a "they got a new job" thing. So with that in mind we are probably waiting on some of the new coaches to sign on before announcements. For the coaches we want those things take time and BOR approvals.
Seems harsh. Dunn has mostly been a big positive for OSU football over the years. I just don't think he was up to being a great OC. There's no shame in that. It could be cool if he's retained as a WR coach, because he is really good at that.If Dunn is named assistant HC I will officially be done with OSU football
Spot on. This is Gundy with his “I’ve done this for 20 years and am going to continue to do it the way I’ve done it for 20 years”. Meanwhile the CFB world is evolving at a rapid pace, this is why you see programs reacting mid season or quickly after. Many have had ongoing coaching searches/talks for weeks now. Gundy’s focus should be solely on the future of this program and not outgoing coaches. And for those that think by not doing mid season changes or announcing firings gives Gundy an in with high level assistants/candidates, well we wouldn’t have gone to Gannon if that was the case.I've never understood this kind of thinking. How does it help them to keep it quiet. The jobs they are going after know what's going on so it's not like it's going to hurt their chances if it's made public. Plus, you'd think making their availability public might mean more potential offers coming in. Just seems to be no down side to making it public, and possibly an upside to do so.
And why should we be any different than other schools out there in this regard? Winning programs focus on the program, not the outgoing coaches that didn't get it done. I hope they are least already interviewing for these positions even though they haven't announced the opening. But it's still a risk to ask someone to wait on an official offer from us if other schools are already offering
Lastly, this can only hurt recruiting and the portal. We need to let players know what's going on, both current and potential recruits. Again other programs know this and make moves quickly to signal what is happening. It does not benefit us to appear complacent even if things are happening behind the scenes.
It's not like Dunn is some kind of toxic, cancerous, terrible person that OSU needs to rid itself of. From everything I know and have heard, he and his family are great people. He just didn't work as our OC, and it's time to find someone that can do a better job.
This feels like a massive tactical error. No room for feelings in a results oriented business. Maybe that's cold and not "cowboy culture", "loyal and true", or w/e slogan you want to throw out there. But if we do not adapt and move quickly on things, OSU is at serious future risk. The HC and AD have a fiduciary duty to the university and program. Additionally, coaches have contracts with specific pay terms. Those coaches are getting paid out regardless of what date the notification happens. Also not knowing as soon as possible, does the outgoing coaches a disservice, limiting their time to find new employment. He doesn’t wanna do it before signing date because the huge majority would bail and we would have no recruit signed. He doesn’t like to do it before Christmas because that affects people’s families. He does like to do it after national Coaches meetings in February because it gives him opportunities to interview multiple people in one setting under the radar.
Realistically that savings would be minimal. Assuming Nardo is gone, he’s either headed back to a much lower level, or he’ll take some analyst position. With Nardo if he gets paid somewhere else OSU just has to make up the difference between his last year on the contract and what he is getting at the new place if it's less?
According to this article, all coaches were on 2 year contracts back in July. So another year and a half for Dunn, unfortunately:I believe Dunn’s contract term is completed now. He will be looking for a new one, whether it be here or elsewhere. As such, he doesn’t have a buyout.

Might as well leave in 2019I'm with ya

You are twiddling your thumbs. Shrum, Weiberg, Gundy and the Board of Regents are behind closed doors. Have you checked Flight Aware lately?Michigan fired their OC. While teams that are bowl eligible are already making moves, we continue to sit twiddling out thumbs.
