Changes Need to be Made

Umm, how about you better get out there in December and get to shopping in that portal heavily and get better talent!!! The portal game is almost more important than recruiting the freshman because you have to usually have to wait a couple of years for them to fully develop!!! Otherwise this is a good list! 🤔

My view of The Portal is that is like Wal-mart. A wide variety of stuff at reasonable prices and most of it is serviceable. But I’m not going out k to the wilderness for extended periods of time with Ozark brand camping gear. I gotta have top shelf stuff for certain items like tents, backpacks, sleeping pads. Portal is fine for beef jerky, Cliff bars, nylon rope. But I’m going hard recruiting for my tent, sleeping bad, and hiking shoes.

Someone should ask him about that. Reverse psychology.
Gundy appears to be possessed by a demon named gozer and seems to have found his key master. The problem is no one can take him out of his trance and the worst defense in college football does not sway him from his path.

That is a fair point! I just look at a school like Arkansas who we faced and somehow beat, don’t ask me how! They went out and got Green (QB) from Boise and the running back from Utah (Jackson) and they look to be a 7 win team this year in the SEC when they finished 3-9 last year!

And he will still probably run for 100 yards against our defense! 🥴

Can’t deny that there is some very good stuff at Walmart, like elcectronics, Wrights bacon, and Modello. But it’s the exception, rather than the rule.

Nicely played, sir.

How does auto correct let that thru?
Have you ever spelled a word so badly that even autocorrect doesn't even know what you're trying to spell? What do you get.. you get, like, a question mark. You got a million dollars of technology just looking back at you like, "you got me, buddy. Which is pretty amazing because I have all the words."

Let's face it. In this era of NIL and unlimited free agency, it nothing but a money game. We have champagne dreams on a single beer budget.

Our budget is why Gundy doesn't pursue a lot of higher ranked kids. It takes money to constantly be in front of them and we just don't have it.

Its very clear at this point we need major changes in our football program. OC, DC, QB Coach and DL coach should be let go. Hire new coordinators and let them bring their own people.

Bowman--thank you for your service and the 2023 Bedlam win. I will always remember that. But it is time to give reps to others--namely Smith at this point, since Zane and Garrett are injured.

Daniels--should be benched immediately. He has quit on so many plays the last two years.

OL--let the youngsters play and give them valuable game reps.

What changes do you want to see?
As the season has worn on I've been chewing on this prompt, as I think many of us have. On this thread and others we've beaten the dead horse that the coaching staff needs changes. It's glaringly obvious. But what isn't discussed is the actual structure of the support staff for the program.

With the dawn of NIL, the way college athletics is managed cannot continue on as previously done. In my opinion, emphasis needs to shift away from coaching to the roster management staff. It harkens back to the Jimmies & Joes vs X's & O's argument. With the fluidity of the rosters in CFB now, the Jimmies & Joes who make up the team are becoming way more complex.

OSU needs to establish a GM position and have that person dictate how the scouting department and recruiting duties are spread across the staff (coaches included). The GM should also be the main conduit for players to engage about NIL related opportunities. I say this for two main reasons. Firstly, it allows the coaches to focus on coaching and coaching only. Second, it allows the coaches to have a football only relationship with the players rather than put the "compensation" or other political discussions into play. The pros do it this way for a reason. Between the lines its about football, nothing else.

Our current roster management positions include a Director of Football Recruiting, Assistant Director of Football recruiting, 2 Player Development staff, and a Prospect Analyst for each position group. Some of these positions are filled by the same people. What's obvious to me, is that we are not in line with programs who are having success with roster management and recruiting in this day and age.

Interesting to compare our staff vs. those of UT and SMU.

We have roughly the same number of staff on hand, but the make up of said staff is vastly different. I'm not here to say we have to mimic these other programs exactly, but we are clearly not having our staff focused appropriately based on our recruiting and on-field performance. I for one will be keenly anticipating a shake up of the support staff into a more modern and pro-style structure.

We pretty much do have a GM, its Kenyatta Wright. He deals with the NIL side and works hand in hand with Todd Bradford and team on recruiting. Problem is this is all pretty new and we have not had a chance to see the results of their work yet. We should very soon though when the portal opens.
