2025 Recruiting Thread

I think you may have meant Brian Presley who played at Jenks in ‘94

This thread hasn’t been touched in a minute lol lost 3 commits. Unsure on if we are in a current dead period or not but seems silent on the recruiting front. Feels like we are just gonna go get more 6’7 TEs from Ohio and give them 3 catches for 19yds after selling the new TE position to him. Complete joke in recruiting.

Almost all of the decommitts so far were us telling them they no longer had a spot. Things changed when the House settlement roster limit came out. We are also going light on high school recruits and instead will be focusing on the portal.

Pretty obvious this is what happened. Gundy said this week we’re going to have to reduce the roster by 30 spots for next year.

Trying to figure out whats different between us and othet schools in recruiting approaches.

Wouldn't that impact all schools? Why did we have to cut to 15 and most schools are still having full classes 22-25+? Shouldn't a roster shrinkage effect all schools and be shown in smaller class sizes for the most part across the board?

Are we planning on only gaining in the portal where other schoops expect to have both gains and losses?

We had a larger roster than most teams and we are also looking to use the portal a LOT more as we need to reload faster, not build up guys over a couple of years (ie our usual high school recruit). Also our NIL is in better shape than ever so we can go after the portal more than before.

Is it true that there was a preseason prospective fundraising effort to raise $600,000 for offensive lineman and Gundy shot it down because he didn’t want to disrupt the locker room?

In my opinion, the portal is gonna be much harder due to more competition and more teams having much better success than we did this year. To me it feels like we’re gonna fall back on Hutchinson Junior College, NEO & East Mississippi CC then pick up some 3rd tier guys from Tulsa and UNT that want to play in a better conference. RB and WR have done well in the portal and a couple secondary pieces but I don’t see us getting stud linemen on either side and that’s a big issue. QB blueprint seems like a disaster also with 3 guys and 2 have very minimal experience

I don't think you are taking into account how many players are expected to hit the portal. Thanks to the House settlement and profit sharing you are probably going to see G5 and below teams have massive amounts of their rosters hitting the portal and testing their market value. They are going to want to get in on the profit sharing that is likely only to happen at P4 schools that are getting playoff money and can afford to do profit sharing. This coming portal is going to be mind blowing with the amount of players in it if even the lowest predictions come true. For an example, Kennesaw St fired their coach a couple of weeks ago, which meant their players could go into the portal early. Within a week they had 17 players hit the portal and more are expected to follow. Now yes this is partly due to coaching change but it is also that they know if they can land at a P4 school, even if they don't get any NIL, they are going to get the profit sharing money.

Thanks for the input! Much appreciated on many fronts! Feels like every team is going to lose 60% of their rosters inc seniors and transfers. Seems like absolute chaos. I mean portal opens in 3wks and teams are still playing through bowl season. Why the heck is the portal not like Jan 9th? Part of the college football fun was watching guys like Rudolph develop and then have a chance at the NFL. This AAU type portal crap is a huge turn off

From our other thread interaction, this is why the GM role is necessary. Gundy/on field coaching should be far away from financial decisions/dynamics. Focus on what you like doing which is coaching ball.

Let personnel guys do personnel.

Mike, please don't turn into Jerry Jones, please don't turn into Jerry Jones.🙏

He was trying to have an old school mindset and while noble it was not going to work in todays college football. I have heard though that he has changed and we should see those changes soon.

Yeah I totally understand his logic as it seems very much in line with traditional college football values. We are just so far beyond that now. Glad he’s adapting though per your sources.

Might be one of those situations where he needs to do the opposite of his initial thoughts going forwards 🤷🏻‍♂️ lol
