2023-2024 Portal Thread

This means we need to put a bigger emphasis on keeping Shettron, LJ3 (waiver) and Owens.
Stribling should be back as well. We should have decent front line talent at WR next year, especially if Presley comes back. We could have depth issues if we have injuries though. I would like to pick up at least one or two proven guys from the portal.

Sucks to lose Bray. If we keep Presley assuming there are no more WR entries I think we will be alright, but need to replace what we lose in the portal. Or at least do the best to match talent.

Imo I think we need:

Starting quality OL depth
Defensive line (pass rusher!!)
DBs (I don’t think Daniel’s should be at the rover position so go find someone who is a better fit)
WR replacements
RB to split carries with Ollie
Pass catching TE
And wildcard is QB??? What do we do there?

Bray was injury plagued and prone to some drops when he was playing. We’ve had some good luck in the portal with WRs. This is a good opportunity to go find another gem like Stribling or Tay Martin. Washington State got anybody else?
They've got a talented WR named Josh Kelly in the portal this year. I would love to bring him and Cam Ward in as a package deal.

Feels like finding receivers in the portal that are able to contribute fairly quickly isn't too challenging. But wow, no receivers left on the team from what looked like a promising receiver class in 2021. Stephon Johnson and little Presley gone from 2022. Shettron has struggled to stay healthy and contribute. Gilkey and none of the 2023 recruits contributed this season.

Presley and Owens are the only 2 receivers that seem to have progressed at OSU. Doesn't feel like Presley abilities have yet to be fully realized. Way more of a possession/move the chains receiver than the dynamic playmaker in space that he ought to be.

Gundy and Dunn had an edge for a long-time in excelling at finding talented under the radar receivers.

He caught 85 passes this season--and almost always makes something happen after the catch. I'd say his abilities have been on full display.

In 2023, it wasn't until the Kansas game that he really became involved in the game plan. I don't know what his target share looks like, but I don't remember many passes going his way the first part of the season when Bray and Stribling were the main focus.

First 5 games: 21 rec - 138 yds 2 TD's
Last 8 games: 64 rec - 701 yds 4 TD's plus 2 rushing TD's

Several starters returning on both sides of the ball. That's a great sign!

We should expect a higher ceiling with this squad if: we can secure a solid QB and our DC can improve from Year 1 to Year 2.

I'm guessing we can find some plug-and-play WRs through the portal or old fashioned recruiting.

Hey @stonewallpoke - check out the positive post above for your records!

I agree he was underutilized early on, just like Ollie--bad coaching.

For a talent like Ollie at a non-blue blood school it makes sense that fan bases will speculate like crazy. It seems strange to me that we have still heard absolutely nothing on this though. My best guess is they are still working out all the details with him.

Help me understand who is pushing for who, and won’t be surprised if what does.

I'm still learning how this board operates as well. There are some players that are pushing for Howard to transfer from KSU. Definitely not breaking any news. Guess it doesn't hurt to have a game-tested qb on your roster.

On3 has him as a near lock for the U.
