Is he an upgrade?

Alan Bowman last year: 3,058 passing yards, 59.7% completion percentage, 13 passing touchdowns, & 12 interceptions
Kyle McCord last year: 3,170 passing yards, 65.8% completion percentage, 24 passing touchdowns, & 6 interceptions

McCord has a better supporting cast around him, but he also played better defenses like Penn State & Michigan. IMO, he would be an upgrade.

Alabama is trying to bring NIL to the high school level. Crooked recruitment already happens across the country in major high school football, wait until boosters start paying them $20k.

I saw parts of a few of their games. He didn't seem like he was setting the world, and as you wrote, he had a good supporting cast.

I didn't see McCord play much--I like the 4 to 1 TD to INT ratio, we've been missing that for a while now

BUT, I'd really like to see a dual threat guy if we're getting a portal QB. If Ollie had another athlete next to him in the backfield, it would be deadly

McCord is good, but not great. At least not at this point in his career. I actually think he should've had better passing numbers with Harrison, Egbuka, Fleming, & Stover to throw to. He's talented though.

Part of me really wishes that Spencer Sanders would've stuck around this year because it would've been a lot of fun trying to watch defenses try to defend him and Ollie on the ground. Hopefully Flores or Rangel will fill the role of a dual threat QB if we don't get one from the portal.

I was really surprised when Howard announced he was transferring out of K-State because he always seemed like a Wildcat through and through. I just assumed he was looking for a big NIL payday.

I don't know that our NIL pocketbooks are any deeper here than they are in Manhattan. I would expect him to land at a bigger school. I would take him if he wanted to come though. We obviously have a spot to fill after Gunnar's departure.

I don't care about rankings generally but, just for reference, there are currently 22 uncommitted QB transfers listed on 247 that are ranked higher than Bowman was last year.

I know that doesn't mean much because I think we got lucky with Bowman but there's plenty of talent to be had.

The problem right now is that we're a little hamstrung waiting on Bowman’s waiver decision. I just don't see us jumping on one of the top guys early in the process. Especially with Rangel and Flores waiting in the wings.

We should be jumping on every good portal QB available. We can't worry about Bowman's waiver decision. Most likely, he won't be granted an extra year, but even if he is, we need someone better if we can get 'em.
