History tells us probably not so much.

Forgive me for being a grumpy old man stuck in the past, but everything about college sports especially football now feels dirty and cheap.

I don’t think you are being grumpy. The NIL $$ has completely altered the college sports landscape.

Effective this week, HS sports in Oklahoma has an open transfer. Players were already transferring more than ever in OK high schools, but expect now we will see a land run after each season.

Although I applaud transparency, I don’t like the OSSAA decision. It provides a significant advantage for athletes to move schools over regular students.

I think it's always been that way. Now it's just legal. Guys like Barry Switzer were as dirty as they come.

It's always been this way under the table for sure. And making it more transparent is good, or at least could be good, but not like this IMO. Renegotiating, every single year, large lump sums of cash to kids who can jump ship at a moments notice with zero recourse is not the way, especially not those who are also on a full-ride scholarship.

If it were up to me a good starting place would be all NIL money to athletes being put into individual trusts of sorts with a payout duration of 4-5 years with final payment upon graduation. This is your pool of money that pays out bi-weekly like a standard job, no advancements. Want to transfer? Leave early for the NFL? Drop out? That's fine, but you forego any money not paid out to that point. I'd also add a clause that at a certain level, scholarship gets removed. Example if your fund eclipses $500k, you have to pay your own tuition/board/etc... and your scholarship is eligible to someone else. I'm not naive enough to think this would be perfect and never corrupted with loopholes and shady people, but for God's sake there has to be some kind of actual structure to all this.

if I’m a young Qb that’s getting snubbed by “big time“ schools, I try and get into Eastern Illinois. Sean Payton, Garappollo, and Romo all played there. 😀
And it's home to the first Jimmy Johns. My son and I were out past there trying to buy an old forgotten VW bus and commented to the seller (a professor at the school) how nice the Jimmy Johns was and he was like "yeah dude went to school here"
