when did people start turning away from childhood vaccines? COVID vaccines distrust? hearing rhetoric from tRump? history and science have shown us that vaccines are effective, so why are we as a society changing our opinion???

Decline occurs among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Fewer Americans today consider childhood vaccines important, with 40% saying it is extremely important for parents to have their children vaccinated, down from 58% in 2019 and 64% in 2001. There has been a similar decline in the combined “extremely” and “very important” percentage, which was 94% in 2001 but sits at 69% today.

It's probably a couple factors.

Vaccines are/were so effective, people today take it completely for granted. We don't have to deal with the horrendous illnesses, so we're now clutching our pearls over side effects.

The retracted Wakefield paper that linked MMR to autism is probably a big driver in misinformation regarding vaccines in the last few decades even before covid. The explosion of social media and folks who don't have the capability to understand how science works and can spout whatever nonsense they want have an eager audience.

Vaccines have been "too" effective..... When I talk about the work I'm in I say the grid works so well it runs our way of life and no one knows anything about it because it works more than 99% of the time. Vaccines eradicated things to the point they were no longer a concern.....so if you didn't get them you were probably ok.....the fact that only works because everyone else got them has faded with time. When 5-10% of people are like "I never had my kids take the vaccines and they were fine" it's still working. The covid vaccines caused a step change in distrust thus a 6% drop in 18 years and an 18% drop in 5 years.

Yet the current administration allowed millions of unvaccinated to cross the border. Priorities.

I didn't claim that they were. The government forced their own citizens out of their jobs for not taking the jab while not even checking temperatures at the border.

The government is about to force their own citizen out of their jobs in a few months because of political appeasement.

I'm not saying either situation is right or wrong, but why are you up in arms about something that happened 3 years ago and silent about something that is likely to happen in the near future?

What in the actual crap are you talking about?

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:FFS..could you gals at least wait until something actually happens to start clutching your pearls. We actually know what actually happened during Covid. Sorry for not getting pre-pissed off over something that might happen in the future. Per usual you're being ridiculous. Don't ever change.
We will see if you stick to this rule.

The next time you complain about a tax increase for the rich, or a student loan payback plan, we will laugh at you and say FFS if you mention it before it happens.

By all means. C'mon, he was trying to compare the possible downsizing of the government (needs to happen) to the Covid travesty that actually happened. He was in a rush to defend the indefensible and posted something stupid. I've come to expect it from him...you on the other hand?

We have fewer federal workers than we did in 1990 despite a much larger population. What is the objective evidence that we need such a large emphasis on downsizing the federal workforce to force mass layoffs when it is a drop in the bucket of the budget?

I didn't give my opinion either situation so I'm not sure how I'm "clutching pearls." I'm not a fan of massive layoffs (not sure anyone is)
and don't have a lot of faith in a couple of billionaires to act in the best interest of the public, but until there are more details on their plans there isn't really much to argue over.

Anyways, you dodged the question. This has been widely reported so it shouldn't come as a surprise that some sort of government worker layoff is being discussed by the upcoming administration. How come you are clutching your pearls about a past event yet silent about a potential upcoming one?

Back to the topic, it's because some people are idiots. You get enough people who think a couple of videos on YouTube carry more weight than legitimate medical advice, or people who want to cut off their nose to spite their face over this and we get what we get.

1) huge increase in automation since 1990; 2) incredible leaps in computing; 3) recent growth of AI; 4) large growth in overall government reducing need for federal

That said, reduction of workforce should be a minor blip of what DOGE does…if they do it right. Major activity should be more effective spending and cost controls and eliminate of redundant activities.
But Congress will need to be involved. Spending cuts or slow or rate of spending growth need to occur.

Because I have absolutely no problem at all with anyone, Democrat or Republican, that wants to trim the waste out of our government. You stated yourself that there aren’t enough specifics yet to even argue about. Are you seriously this dense?

I fully agree with the second part. But just because automation exists doesnt mean that there is not a need for people. If that is the case, then we need a basic income as nongovernment jobs should also be automated away since 1990 also. There needs to be objective criteria, not just the fact that elon cut jobs at twitter, which is nothing like a government.

Look at what elon and vivek are talking about. It is all about cutting people.
