Trump 47

I get it, but that's much harder to confirm/predict. The budget office tries but it's never going to be accurate and you won't know actual revenue v cost until after it's in place and had time to stabilize.
Estimate FY revenues and apply a spending ceiling for that FY…and then adjust (+/-) in following years based on actual revenues.

But we will never figure out our multiple trillion dollar debt growth with a section of citizens seemingly upset when a 1.5k page spending bill was not approved. Some are okay, or precisely don’t care, that we further burden future citizens.

I have no issue with your concept and proposal. National debt is not on the top of my list of concerns but I agree it needs to get fixed.

My concern with it, I could see a lot of pressure being put on the office that is estimating revenues and costs and it becoming politically influenced - which I'm sure it already is.

Fair enough. National debt is probably my #1 national issue.

And yes I concur that estimates…and even actual results are politically influenced.

As he mentions in the video, safety related and other essential services remain with the folks working those jobs getting delayed paychecks. If the government actually shut down, it would be a lot more noticeable.
Assumes people are willing to work for an unknown period until they will probably be paid.

It's VERY noticeable for gov employees. Both military and civilian, and both essential and non essential, as well as non-goverment whose work relies on government functioning.

Government shutdowns are a massive waste of money, time and suck for everyone dependent on the government working.

Yeah i have numerous friends in the military they hate when this happens. I guess JT actually hate the military.

Yeah. I was in during sequestration (jets more often down due to lack of parts and reduced flight time led to reduced proficiency) and the long Obama term shutdown that happened during it. That was before they formalized that pay would be made up for. We were working every day not knowing if we'd get paid and without civilian support.

Now my work supports government and often depends on them being around to do things. So if they are out for a while it impacts productivity.

But "Government doesn't do anything and shutdowns don't impact anything blah blah blah".

All the pearl clutching over this has been highly enjoyable and more evidence our entire government is horrible at their job. On one side you people freaking out over a bill not getting passed when they have absolutely no idea what is in it….like don’t know the high points and can’t answer questiions from the press acting like a government shutdown is the end of the world when they are always non-consequential…..on the other side you have the richest man in the world holding legislators hostage.

And during all the fun the WSJ released a story detailing how our pres for the last four years hasn’t been doing or capable of doing his job.

USA USA USA

the national debt is meh to me...we are conditioned as citizens to be in debt ourselves...having debt is as American as baseball and apple pie...unless you're Dave Ramsey...:p

Haven't you been in favor of passing tax cuts that are projected to increase debt because they did not also vote in associated spending decreases like the TC&J act? Isn't that also being "okay, or precisely don't care, that we further burden future citizens?"

He made an argument that defense spending cannot be cut without risking our security. Basically, with no evidence at all he is trying to make defense a de facto mandatory spending item instead of discretionary.

As long as congress ignores our out of control health care spending, we will not be able to fix this problem without devastating cuts to what Congress calls "entitlements" but regular Americans call "the programs the government forced me to pay into all my life that they mis-managed so now want to steal my benefits from me."

If we are going to be cutting Medicare or Social Security, there should be no companies making multi-billion dollar profits off of health care. They have already stagnated physician salaries for decades, it is time for congress to grow a pair and tell these predatory industries (health insurance, hospital care, dialysis centers......) that the tap is dry.

100% want to pass tax cuts. Unlike you I am not selfish and want other people to have control over themselves and their families. I don’t expect/demand other people fund my life.

And 100% the government should stop/curtail silly spending like increasing pay for congress, bridges to nowhere, public Wi-Fi to areas where hardly anyone lives, inappropriate/excessive foreign country grants, and subsidizing private companies…and look for ways to be more efficient. Basically start having the government work for us instead of vice versa.

It’s incredibly sad that many of the electorate don’t care about spiraling national debt, have zero clue about what percentage of annual spending just services interest on the debt…all because they expect others to cover the cost. Like children in a toy store.

Lawmakers earlier this week had successfully negotiated a deal to fund government agencies but it fell apart after Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk called on Republicans to reject it.

The 118-page "American Relief Act, 2025" strips out a debt-limit provision that Trump had demanded, which was a sticking point for Democrats and some Republican budget hawks in an earlier draft bill.

The deal also removes measures sought by Democrats in the first version of the bill, including the first pay rise for lawmakers since 2009, federal funds to rebuild a bridge that collapsed in Baltimore, healthcare reforms, and provisions aimed at preventing hotels and live event venues from deceptive advertising.

It does include $100bn (£78bn) in disaster relief funds to help with hurricane recovery and other natural disasters, and allocates $10bn in aid to farmers.

If you think that an ENTIRE massive entity like the Federal government has nobody good at doing their job you might as well quit writing your walls of words because anyone with any ability to analyze logical would see your statement and know you have zero credibility. The only "more evidence" is that the people that liked your post are exactly who I think of when I think "lack of ability to analyze." They have bought the talking points and argue to them instead of thinking.

Gullible people will be gullible to ideas even if the ideas have no basis in reality. You have bought a political talking point put out by the very politicians that make it difficult for the government to do its job well. Your statement is hyperbolically stupid and at the level of the people that believe they need to guard their animals because dogs and cats are getting eaten by immigrants or think that their blood is "pure" because they have never had a vaccine.

Here is an example of "not doing their job well:"

Now look at the high level that VA prosthetics serves:

There is nowhere in the world to get higher level prosthetics to a population than the VA.

For employment, or as a patient:Screenshot 2024-12-21 at 10.11.11 AM.png

You want laws made where the people get government services, but not pay enough to cover the government services so that future generations cover them. Which we both know increased the debt. Yet, somehow you take that position and consider yourself the one worried about the debt. And my position that tax cuts need to be paid for at the time they are made or no tax cut makes me selfish?

This is exactly what I was talking about. No analytical ability. When you support an unpaid tax cut, you are EXACTLY who you are describing in your last paragraph. But, as said yesterday, you simply are not self-aware. You can't have the flaws of your thoughts pointed out to you becasue have no ability to rethink your talking point level positions.
