China Moves to replace American Power in the UN......Our VP is over there bashing European leaders to their Face and being very critical of them and China is offering them a soft spot to Land in a Post American Power World.
(Bloomberg) -- China’s top diplomat said no country can “go it alone” and called for a stronger UN, as Beijing seeks to exert more global influence in the face of President Donald Trump’s move to roll out broad-based tariffs and sever some US ties to the world body.
“Countries are interdependent and share the same future, and no country can go it alone,” Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters after a United Nations Security Council meeting that China convened to discuss the importance of multilateralism. “We must not allow the strong to bully the weak, still less to revert to the law of the jungle.”
China has sought to seize on Trump’s threats to impose tariffs globally and challenge historic allies. Wang, 71, has emerged as the face of that effort, embarking on a charm offensive in Europe last week in a bid to position China as a counterweight to Trump’s administration.
Trump has also pushed to distance the US from the UN by backing out of the World Health Organization and withdrawing from institutions including the Human Rights Council and the UN relief agency for Palestinians.
The United States is currently conducting a review of our support to the UN,” Acting US Ambassador to the UN Dorothea Shea said at the Security Council meeting. “We will consider whether the actions of the organization are serving American interests, and whether it can be reformed.”
With Europe reeling from Trump’s intervention to push an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine, the Chinese diplomat first visited the UK and Ireland. Speaking later at the Munich Security Conference, Wang told the audience that China will be a “factor of certainty” in a multipolar world that is “becoming a reality.”
At the same event, US Vice President JD Vance assailed European leaders for regulating online speech and accused them of ignoring voters in their countries worried about the impact of mass migration.
Wang is also heading to South Africa for a foreign ministers’ meeting of the Group of 20 nations later this week. It’s a gathering that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will skip after attacking the country’s land and equality policies and what he said was the group’s focus on diversity and climate change.
Speaking outside the Security Council, Wang sought to convey an attitude of stability and predictability. He didn’t mention the US by name.
“No matter how the international landscape changes, China will stay committed to multilateralism,” he said. “We stand ready to work with all countries to build a better future.”
The US president announced 10% tariffs on China days into his second term. Beijing retaliated by targeting a handful of American companies, slapping levies on some US goods and placing export controls on some critical metals.
