Trump 47

  1. Create a fake problem

Just the the astronauts at the space station....the Biden admin announced last year that NASA was partnering with Space X to get them back to Earth...the. Trump is sworn in and he blasts out how he appointed Elon to go save those people.....it was a program already announced and planned months before

I would like to know what money they are going to have to invest??? Other countries that have this have laws that allow them to invest their BUDGET SURPLUS in this way.

We going to start borrowing to invest now??? Because we sure don't have any surplus to invest
Pish posh….do you even tariff dude?

Don't let facts get in the way of a Trump claim

Maybe world leaders are figuring him out. All you have to do with Trump is let him think he "won" by either giving him something minor or doing what you were already planning on doing and let him think it's something new. He backs off and his base is dumb enough to buy it (see this thread) so everyone wins. Well except for the public who has to bear the brunt of bad policy but you know, cheaper groceries or something.

It’s really not that hard to figure out.

Gee, seems off he plans to replace the income tax he would put tariffs in place for more than 24 hours. Either that or he loves the cheers of the hyperguillible.
The more extremist of MAGA aren't happy with Trump folding to Mexico and Canada

Trump caves again, this time to Trudeau, pausing tariffs on Canada in exchange for border security measures that were already in place. Critics mock him for being duped, with Trudeau repackaging old commitments while Trump brags about a non-deal. Even conservatives laugh as Trump folds "like a bad poker player," proving once again he’s outmatched on the world stage.

Hilarious 😆. Looks to me like he got plenty.

By all means, keep rooting against us.

Looks like that to you because you’re a cheerleader cultist and hyper-gullible when it comes to the grifter in chief.

Sudden tariff pause highlights the uncertainty CEOs face

The pause in US tariffs on Canada and Mexico might bring a sigh of relief from politicians, but it’s a bit more complicated for CEOs.

If there’s one thing the business world doesn’t like, it's uncertainty. And that was reflected by the sell-off in global stock markets on Monday.

The quick turnaround from President Trump shows that they can't be sure of what to expect for the next four years.

In recent years, many companies reorganised supply chains to try and avoid tariffs. For example, many switched the manufacturing of goods for the US market from China to Mexico or India.

But when you don’t know which countries might be next in President Trump’s firing line, it's difficult for a CEO to decide where to put the next investment that will create jobs and grow an economy - so many might choose not to bother.

Tariff halt can be claimed as a win for both Trump and Trudeau

Reporting from Toronto, Canada

There's a widespread sigh of relief from Canadian politicians and business leaders who've just learned that, like Mexico, Canada has a 30-day pause on US tariffs.

After Mexico's announcement this morning, there was concern Canada would not get the same reprieve.

In a statement on X, Canada's PM Justin Trudeau mentioned the outline of a new border security plan - much of which had already been announced in December.

That C$1.3bn (£724m) plan included efforts to disrupt the fentanyl trade, new tools for law enforcement, enhanced coordination with US law enforcement, increased information sharing and limiting traffic at the border.

There was also a deployment of drones and Black Hawk helicopters for surveillance.

One new element appears to be the appointment of a "fentanyl tsar" and a $200m intelligence directive.

While the threat of tariffs remains, both Trudeau and Trump will be able to point to this outcome as a political win - the president can claim more border security, Truderau a win on averting potentially devastating tariffs

US stakeholder says Trump's high-stakes 'game of chicken' can still hurt people

Earlier today, I spoke to Dan Dunmoyer, president and chief executive of the California Building Industry Association, which was worried especially about higher tariffs on lumber coming in from Canada.

At the time, he was holding out hope for a deal, noting that the president had "proven himself to be able to play a game of chicken like nobody else".

But he warned the back-and-forth would have costs.

"There are individuals, consumers and businesses - lives - that are put on hold or challenged and that's not good for the economy, but more important, it's not good for the people".

"That's what happens when you play high-stakes poker on the global level - there are people that get hurt."

Former Canadian Foreign Minister Perrin Beatty calls the delay good news, but questions whether fentanyl is really the issue for Trump, or if the goalpost will continue to shift. (BBC)

Where does fentanyl come from?
The ingredients in fentanyl are largely produced by companies in China and used by pharmaceutical companies to make legal painkillers. But a portion of those chemicals is purchased by the Sinaloa and Jalisco cartels in Mexico.

Cartels make the synthetic opioid in labs and then smuggle it into the U.S., largely at official land crossings in California and Arizona. The small amounts of fentanyl in any shipment — the drug is 50 times more potent than heroin — and its lack of odor, make detection and seizures extremely challenging.
Fentanyl is also made in Canada and smuggled into the U.S., but to a much lesser extent. U.S. customs agents seized 43 pounds (19.5 kilograms) of fentanyl at the Canadian border during the last fiscal year, compared with 21,100 pounds (9,570 kilograms) at the Mexican border.
Seizures of fentanyl jumped by as much as tenfold under President Joe Biden, an increase that may reflect improved detection.

What changed after Trump threatened tariffs?

Mexico announced in December the seizure of more than a ton of fentanyl pills in what it described as the largest bust of synthetic opioids in the country's history. The haul was striking because fentanyl seizures in Mexico had fallen dramatically in the first half of 2024.
Under President Claudia Sheinbaum, who took office in October, Mexico's security forces appear to be far more aggressive than they were under her predecessor. Former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador denied that fentanyl was even produced in Mexico, contradicting officials in his own administration.
To pause the tit-for-tat tariffs, Mexico agreed to immediately deploy 10,000 National Guard troops to the border to battle drug-trafficking, while the U.S. committed to do more to stop the trafficking of guns into Mexico, said Trump and Sheinbaum on social media.
Facing tariff threats, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has highlighted his country's recent $1.3 billion investment in border enforcement, including chemical detection tools at entry ports and a new unit focused on the oversight of precursor chemicals.
Once Trump ordered the tariffs, Trudeau rebuked the move and geared up for a trade war before reaching a deal with Trump Monday to pause the use of tariffs for at least a month.
Trudeau posted on X that Canada would appoint a fentanyl czar, list Mexican cartels as terrorist groups and launch a “Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force” to combat fentanyl, organized crime and money laundering.
...
How much can Mexico, Canada and China do?
Combating the production and movement of illicit fentanyl is particularly challenging.

Unlike heroin and cocaine, which are produced from plants, fentanyl is made with ingredients used for legal pharmaceutical drugs, and can be made in cheap labs that can be erected relatively quickly. And despite the dangers, demand in the U.S. for the highly addictive drug remains strong.
Mike Vigil, the former chief of international operations at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, said he was skeptical that Mexico’s extra troops at the border on their own would make much of a dent in trafficking.
Once fentanyl leaves the labs, it’s usually well concealed in hidden compartments of vehicles or in huge cargo trucks; better detection technology is crucial, in addition to more troops, he said. The other challenge, Vigil said, is that combating the fentanyl trade will likely require more than just collaboration between the U.S. and its neighbors.
“Even if Mexico, Canada and these other countries snap their fingers and did away with the drug trade, as long as we have that demand, there will be another country that will satisfy that demand.” (US News)

Make no mistake I am not rooting against the US, I just believe Donald Trump is a terrible human being and a horrible leader (and I say that as a republican).

If another cartel leader has been taken off the streets great, but let me know when he gets extradited to the US, otherwise I am skeptical anything of significance has been accomplished.

Honest question, do you really believe 10,000 Mexican troops on the border will accomplish anything? Additionally, have you ever heard of Los Zetas or how they came about?
