Trump 47

he told us he would deport (he is doing that) but many times he said he would go after the ´bad hombres´/violent offenders first (not happening)...he promised to lower grocery prices (doing the opposite)...said the russia/ukraine war would be done (nope)...he is following through on his tariffs (which will cause economy go go downwards and prices to go UP - so much for lower groceries)...he did promise to deal with DEI (but believes anything that goes wrong is because of DEI - that hints of racism - when that is what you attack first)...he promised to get rid of rights for transgenders (so good for him???!!!)...he is trying to destroy obama care (again)...he still believes climate change is a hoax (so is that a promise?)...

but to me the 2 biggest things people wanted him to accomplish and he said he would do it; was border and prices of food/gas...so heś 50%, and I woud say 25% cuz he´s not deporting who he said...

Again, lets check back in a year. You keep using egg prices as a barometer yet also posted an article explaining that the reason they are high was a mandatory kill off before DT took office.

I would agree here. I’m no Trump supporter and I wish I knew the goal of these tariffs, but the Democrats have been stuck with their foot in their mouth when raising hell about Trump policies too early before.

Monday (morning, no less), you say….

Will this finally be your FAFO moment?
We’ll see. I may actually end up being wrong (for once) on the Monday morning prediction but it won’t take long. Patience Grasshopper.

Egg prices have risen largely due to flock liquidation related to avian flu. The policy of eradicating an entire flock when animals test positive pre dates both he Biden and first Trump administrations so this was something that would happen regardless of who is president*. But there are a bunch of things we heard "Let's go Brandon" over for 4 years that Biden had little to no influence over so I've come to the conclusion that turnabout is fair play.

*There is a caveat to this. Layer slaughter and egg production numbers are compiled by the NASS. Im not sure how often they survey or how many job openings there are in that department but Trump’s day 1 let's screw with federal workers policy hasn't helped. If the department that compiles this data is short staffed it's going to impact the ability to get meaningful results which will cause confusion in the commodity markets surrounding eggs and could lead to price increases. I don't think there is any way to quantity the effect but it is a perfect example of a Trump policy that can have an impact on what consumers pay.

I'm sure giving an unelected man who just happens to be the wealthiest man in the world unprecedented access to the Federal Payment system. isn't anything of concern, right?

This Is Fine GIF
I understand the reason for your concern (definitely valid), but I will provide an alternative view. If DOGE truly is designed to make the government more efficient and save taxpayer funds, I think providing “read-only” access is probably necessary.

It is not unusual at all for Fortune 500 companies to hire consulting groups (Accenture, BCG, KPMG, etc) and provide them access to all billing, procurement, and financial records.

The poultry industry has been vertically integrated for decades. We know how many chickens and eggs there are without, and in spite of, what some government bureaucrat tells us lol.

No, I am sure it is better to complain about everything.

Like the tweet below.
1) Gas prices are going up! Whoops, gas prices have actually dropped $0.03 since inauguration.
2) Dow Jones is going down! Whoops, Dow is actually up 600 pts since inauguration.
3) Taxes are up! Whoops, no taxes have increased.
4) Social Security is on the chopping block! Whoops, that claim has no validity unless your source is Joy Reid.
5) Eggs prices are up! Whoops, based on Dec 2024 prices

Maybe, just maybe, think about how it has only been 13 days. I am sure there will be valid things to complain about, but making things up doesn’t serve a positive purpose and is just extreme partisan silliness

Not my tweet.

Not anything I said.

Suggesting Musk and his cohorts, with direct interests and conflicts, getting access to all billing, procurement, and financial records to a Fortune 500 company hiring an independent consulting firm (with confidentiality and fiduciary responsibilities to said company) is head in the sand level Ostrich nonsense.

I know you can’t. But can you attempt to explain why it is nonsense?

The fact that you don’t understand (or don’t care about) the difference between a hired independent consulting firm with fiduciary and confidentiality obligations to the company that hires them having such access,

and

someone like Musk who has direct, personal, and conflicting financial interests in that information having that same access with no confidentiality or fiduciary responsibility whatsoever to anyone is what makes it nonsense.

DOGE getting classified material by placing the people who are supposed to secure it on leave. DOGE is not a real agency. There is no congressional authority. So, we are at the point where a foreign born billionaire gets to access classified material in the first 13 days of the presidency because he wants to.

I suppose we just need to give it time. I mean, there is no way that non-governmental agencies using financial clout to get security chiefs of agencies removed is a bad thing, right?

If this was happening in some random Third World country, every single one of us would be saying, "well, that is basically a coup."
If George Soros did this, we would have another Jan 6th.

Since it is here and many people, obviously including those posting on this board, care more about their side rather than the country, somehow this is OK.
To be fair to those people they’re actually saying, “it MIGHT be okay….let’s wait and see how it plays out…no need to worry about it now.”

When I mention eggs, it is as a joke, cuz republicans were screaming about egg prices...what about grocery prices? what about gas prices? what about normal household items? tRump ain´t doing $&*t about anything that will help the middle to lower class and never will...

nobody is gonna change anybody's opinion on here...I will never trust tRump and his band of billionaires to be doing anything to help the ´common folk´ and a few on here will continue to play whataboutism and say, ´we gotta be patient´... even if deep down they doubt that advice and are thinking WTF is this ´new and improved´ GOP thinking??!!

BBC summary

Summary

from BBC summary: The tariffs, which Trumps says are in response to concerns around illegal immigration and drug trafficking, will come into effect from midnight on Tuesday

from USA facts.org: According to a 2023 report from the Department of Homeland Security, most fentanyl is primarily found and seized from vehicles driven by US citizens at official ports of entry. It's not really about drug trafficking.

That being said, I'm not sure what it's really about. I think Trump thinks this is a good idea so we are gonna do it no matter what. Im guessing this is the mentality that ran casinos into the ground.

Fentanyl was also WAY down last summer. So again not sure what this is about other than Trump saying it and therefore thinking it must be a good idea.
