Trump 47

If there is no due process, prove to me you are an American.
Are you trying to say all these people be disappeared, held for weeks on end with no charges and/or sent off to prisons in other countries (all without ever seeing a judge or being able to talk to a lawyer) is allowing due process?

No. I'm saying if we are going to put people in holes outside of the American judicial system, what's stopping them from "accidentally" confusing a foreign visa holder with an American citizen?

I just want to make sure everyone understands that these people were taken to a foreign prison because thier own own country wouldn't accept them in retaliation to the US over a oil lease conflict. Despite the 1000 posts about this subject on here I find it odd that this part was never mentioned?

That is interesting.

Well in that case what should we do with them?

I am honestly asking. I think a bunch if it is bs for alot of reasons but there is a 100% chance some of the people we are sending there none of us want here.

Are you talking about the German, the Russian, the Brit, the few from the Middle East that also got held without chance to correct visa issues, speak to a lawyer or even tell anyone what was going on?

Looks like deportation flights were refused starting on March 8. Trump shipped off the "gang members" on the 15th. So a week after Venezuela stopped accepting deportation flights, Trump suddenly decided these "gang members" had to get sent off immediately. Interesting timing there. They couldn't wait to confirm any part of the government stance that they were all hardened criminals, or even confirm who they had. Wonder if those two things are related.

Oh, and Venezuela is now accepting deportation flights again. So we sent 250 unknown people to supermax prison where people don't leave without knowing who we had or making sure they were who we claimed they were just to force Venezuela to start accepting deportation flights again..

Seems to me, we did this not because we didn't have better choices or that we actually thought that they were all terrorists, but to make a statement. The statement was made by the DK below. Essentially, we took two hundred and something people, called them all terrorists, put them in a max security prison hellhole they may never leave, so that we could announce that "If you come to our country illegally, this is one of the consequences you can face." Note, she did not say that if you are a gang member who commits violence, just if you come illegally.

This is what we have become.

It was a power play by Trump that I think went too far but worked as they are now excepting our flights. We went too far. We need to use whatever resources it takes to get those sent to El Salvador back home.....But most will probably just go to jail there too

We should have held them here....but we would eventually have to do some equally crappy thing to Venezuela for them to break and take these people back.

If we put these 250-ish men through the courts like the law says, and gave them the legal process that everyone in the US is supposed to get and THEN deported them (to include to the El Salvador prison for those conviction of criminal charges that warrant it) I wouldn't have an issue.

I just can't wrap my brain around the people who handed the keys to Joe effing Biden now all up in arms over "Elon has too much power".

Just makes no sense to me.

So you don't understand why people are ok with a President making decisions about the nation, but not ok with an unelected private citizen who is openly using his vast wealth to directly influence election outcomes?

Ever heard of George Soros?

Musk is a president's decision about the nation. It may very well be a bad decision. But we're certainly used to those.

George Soros is like the Koch Brothers. A nebulous boogeyman the other side likes to demonize and attribute them as the funders and enablers of all bad things the other side does.

The reality is, while both are net negative--and I hope we can agree here, they aren't even in the same ballpark as the major players right now. And what Musk is doing is completely unprecedented. Nakedly buying votes. If this isn't stopped, stick a fork in us, because democracy won't survive it.

And I would say the same thing if the democrats/the left were doing it.

Soros is the right wing boogeyman-pretty much the same as the Koch brothers a few years ago. When he's gone (he's 94) there will be someone else that keeps you up at night with their liberal scheming. Rich people have influenced politics since we became a country and its not gonna change any time soon.

Musk is something different though. It would have been one thing if he spent the cash he did on Trump and stayed in the background. But he was front and center in the campaign and used his social media company to influence the outcome of the election. In return he was given a prominent yet unofficial role in the administration with apparently no oversight. It appears that he has more power than any unelected beaurocrat has ever wielded. He has also displayed fascist imagery multiple times and seems to behave like a sociopath when it comes to his view on federal government personnel. We joke about President Musk but if you are being honest, it's almost a shadow presidency by him when it comes to domestic policy.

I must have missed George Soros being appointed by Biden to decimate government agencies and to cancel government contracts with his direct competitors and then enrich himself by picking them up.

I must have missed the whole anybody that damages Soro’s property is a domestic terrorist thing too.
