DOGE Delete $140 Million Savings From ‘Receipts’ Website
Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has sharply reduced the number of federal real estate leases it claims to have terminated, suggesting it has not been as efficient at slashing government spending as advertised.Musk’s cost-cutting department has been bragging for weeks that it had terminated 700 government leases since President Donald Trump assumed office, saving over $460 million in the process.
But at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday the group quietly removed 136 of the cancellations from its website, reducing its savings by around $140 million—nearly 30 percent of the gross total.
Although the exact reason for the deletions remains unclear, early signs suggest the cancellations mean DOGE is experiencing significantly more pushback from government agencies than initially expected.
Last week, the General Services Administration, which oversees the federal real estate portfolio, announced it was rescinding over 100 lease termination notices, according to The New York Times. Although the exact reasons for the cancellations remain unclear, some were rescinded due to “feedback from customer agencies,” while others had allegedly faced internal pushback from lawmakers and agency officials.
Other agencies which appear to have had success in staving off DOGE cuts include the Army Corps of Engineers, who fought off the closure of their office in Chicago by arguing the loss of office space could result in longer emergency response times. The National Weather Service and Indian Health Service also managed to save their offices from closure after working “closely with DOGE and the Administration,” the Times reports.

$12.6B is more than I was expecting but still only about 10% of thrir claims. I know after being called out for fake savings, they've done things to make it harder to match to what was cut (you know, cause transparency).
And how much of this is waste vs. "stuff I just don't like"?
I'll say it until I'm blue in the face: if they want too root out waste, look no further than the private sector.

An attorney representing a migrant sent to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act says her client was deported due to a soccer logo tattoo, according to court declarations submitted Wednesday night.Linette Tobin is representing Jerce Reyes Barrios, a professional soccer player from Venezuela who protested the Maduro regime in February and March 2024 and was detained and tortured after one of the demonstrations.
Barrios came to the U.S.-Mexico border legally through the CBP One app in September 2024 but has been accused of being a Tren de Aragua, or TdA, member and was detained at a facility under maximum security
The Department of Homeland Security has accused Barrios of having a gang-affiliated tattoo and claimed a photo of him showed him displaying gang signs. ABC News has reached out to DHS.
The tattoo in question showed a crown sitting on top of a soccer ball with a rosary and the word "Dios" (God), according to Tobin. A declaration from the tattoo artist confirmed that Barrios chose it because it was similar to the Real Madrid soccer team logo, the attorney said. According to Tobin, those alleged gang signs were the hand symbol for rock and roll and "I love you" in sign language.
Tobin also said she submitted records from Venezuela that indicated Barrios had no criminal record in his home country and was employed as a professional soccer player and children's soccer coach.
