If you voted for Trump based on Immigration and said you support Legalized Immigration in the US

you are now DIRECTLY in opposition to the Trump admin and what they are doing here.

If you support LEGAL immigration to the US, then you must fully reject Trump and this move as authoritarian and fascist.

This isn't an endorsement for how the tariff issue is being handled because there seems to be little rhyme or reason but the electricity stuff off.

Canadian power feeds MISO, PJM, NYISO....and to a lessor extent WECC The reason for a great deal of the power that is imported is skirt state/fed environmental standards (nearly 100% of what goes to NY is for that reason). All of those markets have annual capacity auctions which have already cleared and are not impacted by these tariffs at all. And two of those interconnects cleared at Price of New Build or their max so they couldn't go up anyway. After that you have day ahead capacity markets and real time markets....those clear as they are named one day ahead and on a 5 minute basis in real time based on demand and transmission environment of the geographic pricing node. All assets have to submit a verifiable minimum cost curve every day. All plants can be dispatched at that rate without participating in or without adding any profit margin to their costs curves and you have no right of refusal you either have to make the power or purchase the replacement at your own cost. Additionally you will always see them say X% of imports come from Canada not the actual amount...the reason they don't say the actual amount is because the total amount of imports is never above reserves. You can only import power from Canada or Mexico so a percent statement is misleading. A cold/hot spell will have a much larger impact than these tariffs as the day ahead markets move more than 25% all the time. The forwards for those markets are not reflecting tariff fears.....yet. They absolutely could but aren't yet. Tariffs on gas will have a bigger impact on electricity than those on electricity itself and while they mentioned it in the article they didn't in the way it really correlates. Additionally most retail contracts are fixed priced/period of time so they cannot be changed mid contract without an event recognized by FERC or contractual stipulation and if they get caught gouging they will pay more than it benefitted....this isn't like the SEC where you make an insider trade that nets 5B and pay a 200M fine. The Canadian plants also cannot shut off selectively without losing the annual capacity payment for the period they make themselves unavailable and for many facilities that's the bulk of total revenue and is essentially all their fixed revenue. Facilities with long term take off or tolling agreements will also be unchanged with the provider eating the change not the off taker unless contractually stipulated and I haven't seen one does for tariffs and have dealt with replacement contracts for plants in upstate NY that are now being fed in part by Canadian facilities. To make that statement based on the information in that article is impossible and there is plenty of information that is available that currently contradicts that statement.

Not defending the swinging gate tariff policy but this is one I know about and haven't read anything factual yet and I'm keeping up with it.
