Trump 47

The same way that the government leasing office space to make people who worked at home share a space in an office will save taxpayer money.
At least that potentially saves pennies. By making people miserable and pushing some to quit (not that I agree with it in any way) and think it's super dumb

Pretty sure this is a clown statement. Sadly I have to say pretty sure. Yes when the deficit is what it is he needs to throw gas on fires. Heck the last 4 admins needed to be throwing gas on that fire. The division isn't of his making. I got no clue if he is trying to fix it or take power. All I can say is people are pissed beyond belief after being shown what is happening with their money. The polls are a joke. I can't tell you how many people I have talked down. I know y'all think I'm off the rails but I ain't that off the rails.
I'm glad you're maintaining some skepticism that this might just be a power grab under the guise of cuts. I certainly can't say I know what's going on except I know Trump is the most untrustworthy character I've seen in politics and it's not likely Musk is doing this out of the kindness of his heart. Power and money when discussing politics is the usual culprit.

Not sure about your media consumption but I know conservative media is saying all the money was being spent on trans surgeries in Siberia and flavored condoms in Africa. I'd just caution that there were actually good humanitarian efforts as well. https://www.paho.org/en/partnerships/usaid-malaria-initiative

The Trump administration has halted a federal scholarship for HBCU students. "The 1890 Scholars Program has been suspended pending further review," a notice on the government's website said.

Staffing at the HUD office that pays for housing and support services across the country is slated to be cut by 84%. Advocates warn such heavy cuts could make record-high homelessness even worse.

Trump: "We were the richest relatively -- think of this -- from 1870 to 1913. That was our richest. Because we collected tariffs ... we had so much wealth. Of course, now we give it away to transgender ... everybody gets a transgender operation."

All federal workers will shortly receive an email asking what they did last week — and that if employees fail to respond, it will be taken as a resignation, Elon Musk wrote in a post on X Saturday.

They should respond with a big FU

His deportation rate is running 40% behind what Biden averaged for 2024 on a monthly basis

The article here referencing it said Biden had higher numbers because there was higher illegal immigration and they were catching a bunch of people crossing the border so it was easier than whatever raids they are conducting now.

All of that makes sense to me. It also makes sense that he would want to use that to push the narrative that Biden was worse for illegal immigration because more people tried to sneak across when he was President. The whole "it's gonna get better under me on day 1" would have been an easy argument to make on this issue. That wasn't enough for him I guess.

In a series of early morning posts, the president gave Musk a performance review, urging the DOGE head to “GET MORE AGGRESSIVE.”

I thought Musk was just an advisor and didn't have any role in setting policy.

So how's he gonna implement his agenda when there's no left to do anything about it? The project 2025 master plan is to replace government workers with yes men but a month in I'm not convinced he's gonna find enough competent people to fill all of those roles. The people that have bought in fully probably don't have the skillset to do what most of those people have been doing (not a knock on them-I'd be the same way if all the sudden I found myself as an undersecretary in Homeland Security) and a bunch of them probably want to just keep doing what they are already doing with their lives.

I gotta feeling this is gonna blow up in their face which would be hilarious if most of our lives weren't impacted by the outcome.

This is a profoundly stupid thing to do:

The current administration has ordered the shutdown of 8,000 federal govt EV charging ports.

The money has already been spent. All this does is waste taxpayer money and create stranded assets out of something entitely useful.

This literally is “waste and abuse”. 🤦‍♂️

I see the name of the USAID programs but I am highly suspect of what's actually being done.
