The sooners are going to miss a bowl game this year.

We don't know that yet. He was good at a borderline P4 school. Will that translate to high P4 success? Time will tell.

ESPN's FPI had you as a favorite in 5 games. If that holds then you are spending Christmas on the couch.

Cam ward came from wsu, coached by the same OC and QB coach OU has now, and he translated nicely to the ACC and into a #1 draft pick. It's fair to note that Mateer at wsu had zero 4 and 5 stars on his team, it was an offense full of 3 and 2 star talent, so it's not as if wsu was more talented than everyone they played, it was pretty even.

Diego pavia who transferred from new mexico state came to the sec and had 28 touchdowns and over 3000 total yards, and did this being surrounded by vanderbilt's 3 stars around him, I like to think Mateer can perform well too. nothing is guaranteed, but we have seen this before.

I would also note that they have upgraded at OC and QB coach from 2024 as well. Better qb, better offense, better qb coaching, this will help tremendously

It's unfortunate that the FPI is an irrelevant talking point

In a weak conference too
True, but the team itself was built similarly to the teams they played against. i.e. Mateer had only 2 and 3 stars on offense around him. wsu is #95 in talent composite on 247. Just for comparison, vanderbilt is #55. I say this to illustrate what level of talent existed at wsu, yes it's a weak schedule they played, but wsu had a talent composite similar to what eastern michigan and Georgia southern have.

Most everyone will end up dropping a game they shouldnt. Georgia almost lost to kentucky, who just got lambasted 31-6 by south carolina. Have to overcome those bad games and come out with the W no matter how ugly. Got lots of those coming up. Having many losses seems unlikely, but i can see a 9-3 year.

Yes most certainly the new slate of games will be much more entertaining than what they had to work with over the years in the big 12.

Wish we had more comments on what you were thinking about Arnold a year ago.

I figure the optimism will fail after game 7.

Well my comments during camp before the injuries to the OL and WRs were a little more positive than after losing that many starters

At least with Mateer we have seen him perform against fbs teams vs arnold having only seen high school teams. cam ward did fine after leaving the same wsu that Mateer came from. Diego pavia did fine at vanderbilt after leaving new mexico state. And I think it counts to say Mateer lead the country in touchdowns. yes yes a mostly a mountain west schedule. well no other mountain west QB had more than 29 and Mateer had 44.

Either way it's a vast improvement from a guy who made a habit of turning the ball over late in 1 score games
