Rob Walton to retire

Pitching was the reason we got to Omaha and won two games there in 2016. While not perfect, walton has ran circles around our hitting coaches, whoever they have been or continue to be. Josh seems to dance around who our hitting coach is.

I agree with what seems to be the general consensus here. While at times maddening with his in-game pitch calling and decisions, Walton and his pitching staff more often than not have more than held up their end of the deal. Almost entirely responsible for the CWS run in 2016 and year in and year out he's managed to put together a pitching staff that has given the team a chance to win most nights. The last 2 years he has been dynamite in the portal in finding guys that were maybe overlooked at the mid major level and turning them into really good front line starters in the Big 12. I won't miss the nibbling with 2 strikes and the overuse of the slider for some guys with good velocity, but Rob's body of work deserves to be celebrated here and as mentioned above, has certainly been much more consistent at a higher level than the hitting side of things. His replacement will have big shoes to fill .... especially if we continue to be what we've been at the plate for many years now.

Rob is very highly regarded everywhere but the message boards. With the salary he is pulling in we could hire a good pitching coach and a good hitting coach. I don’t have confidence in Josh to make a good hire here. Wouldn’t be totally surprised if he hired Tom.

If it was up to me and he proposed that I would send him out the door and start over.

Thanks and congrats to Walton for what he has done at OSU. Not many coaches would leave a head coaching position (where they have been successful) and join another program as a position coach.

He has been frustrating but that is part of being a coach. You don’t always make the correct decisions

He deserves to be celebrated for the work he has done at OSU.

Agreed. Getting rid of him won't fix the team batting average.
