Good to see the Cowboys pull and away and win big.

I don’t see the Cowboys scoring a lot once conference play starts. I just don’t see the shooting ability and athleticism on the roster needed. They need to continue to improve their defense as they will need it to win in the Big12.

I don’t disagree. We really worked on defensive rotation during the 9 day break. We were improved tonight. Also I’m betting blocking out was emphasized at halftime bc we were much better in second half.

We don’t seem to run by shooters on the line as much. There were a couple of times but we seem improved there.

Bryce had 15 on 5-11 (0-0 from 3). He had 4 steals and 4 assists (w at least 3 more dropped by bigs). He did have 3 turnovers but only 1 foul. This is the type of line we should see from him every game. There were 2 bad plays. One was a drive and fall to the floor turnover and the other he took it 1 on 3. Lutz immediately pulled him after both and then he came back and played like a super sr should. If Bryce had this the last 3 yrs he would be more than fine.

I like that we don’t play Bryce and Newman at the same time. They are interchangeable and both have some defensive weaknesses.

I would like to see more of Davis and Dean at the same time. They really get after it.

I would also like to see more called sets for Newman and Ousmane. They seem to make good decisions and don’t force shots.

Newman’s shot is pure when he gets his feet set and shoulders squared to the basket.

Got out of the gate slow. Came on fast to close the half and then kept it going. When tu made a run here or there, we responded. Used the bench well.

Our pace, even if it's frenetic at times, will absolutely wear people out. Even more talented teams. But those teams will also shoot better and do the small things much better than teams like tu does but I feel like we have a real identity and a man that can coach.

They play really hard which is such a refresher and is fun to watch.

When the team was struggling mid-way through first half, we came out of a time out and hit Ousmane down low about 3 or 4 times to retake the lead. It was as if the coach called for it during a time out, and the players executed it! But yes, I think those will be our two (Ousmane, Newman) go-to guys when we need a bucket.

I noticed the same thing in the second half. Came out of a timeout after Tulsa was on a run and immediately got the ball down low to Ousmane for an easy layup. Love it!

The most important observation in this post is the team has an identity. I don’t think they ever had one under Boynton, or at least a consistent one.

Also key to that was Bryce playing under control and within the system. I’ve been dismissive of Bryce but he played really well during that 1st half spurt and made some really nice entry passes.

At the beginning of the second half Bryce went 1 on 3 and in the same tv frame Lutz pointed at someone on the bench and then motioned to the scorers table. When Bryce came out Lutz didn’t speak to him or make eye contact. Then couple minutes later you can see Lutz on the sideline down by Bryce talking to him. When he came back in Bryce played probably some of his best ball.
