OSU at Missouri State

If I’m Weiberg I give Josh an ultimatum. Bring in a hitting coach and new pitching coach or they will find someone who will. Josh clearing isn’t capable of coaching and developing players at this level.

If I understand correctly, Weiberg was forced to do something with Gundy, or nothing would have happened. I'm not sure he has the stomach for this disaster of an athletic department. We'll see.

What a sad, disappointing season. It's the only way to describe it. Down the road, an OU team we have dominated for years is a top 10 team in the country battling it out on the weekends with nationally relevant SEC teams and we are losing 5/6 to Utah and Kansas and striking out 15 times against midweek pitching from Missouri State. Add in we are likely to miss the regionals altogether and possibly not even qualify for the Big12 tournament. This team appears dead in the water. Sad state of affairs and as bad as we've seen Cowboy baseball in a long, long time. There need to be significant changes at the end of the year is the understatement of the day.

To be honest he is kind of in a no-win position. These coaches were well entrenched at OSU before he got the job. He couldn't force Gundy to do anything until Gundy had a bad season which hadn't happened in 20 years. It finally happened and he was able to force through change. Could be the same thing that happens in baseball. Hard to force change when you keep hosting regionals.

Being the A.D. is a tough job. I'm curious if Weiberg gives a "perception" of weakness that gives coaches like Gundy and Holliday the idea that they can get away with "slacking" or otherwise not expecting repercussions from allowing their teams to decline. Obviously there are other coaches that are self driven, strive to win and don't need anyone to call them out. Personally, I haven't felt Josh was the guy to bring us back to national relevancy for quit some time, certainly before this season.

How great does the move to the SEC look for OU and Texas, especially in baseball. The SEC has 8 of the top 10 baseball teams in this week’s poll. Texas at #5 and OU at #10. The Big 12 has zero teams in the Top 20 and only two (KSU & ASU) in the Top 25. Despite being in an incredibly weak conference , we are 12-14 and 1-6 in the league. We have been heading this direction for the past few years. Chad’s procrastination on making necessary changes or even putting coaches on notice has landed us in the worst condition of our baseball program in recent memory. It’s going to be a LONG road back at this point barring a blockbuster hire which I don’t see happening! Cecil would be very upset!

You're crazy thinking Chad is going to fire Josh after winning 40 games the past 3 seasons along with coming off 2024 Big 12 tournament title (finishing 2nd in reg season) last year. There will be changes to the roster (as there are every year) and maybe an assistant or two but Josh won't be fired.

I'm glad to see fans care about the program but let's stop with the sky is falling. Trust me, the kids know they aren't performing to the Cowboy standard. Like mentioned earlier, the season is not over until the final out...anything can happen.

Like the Gundy situation, I don't think he needs to be fired.

But he needs to make some changes. Coaches, teaching methods, recruiting, I don't really care what it is--he's been doing the same thing for a long time and it hasn't yielded the results that meet the expectations of OSU baseball. He has to embrace the idea that there are better ways than the way he's doing it. I'm not confident that he will without some pressure.

In baseball it looks good for them, because they are well coached and can compete. The move in football and basketball is about to get both of their coaches fired.

I just don’t think Chad will fire Josh. Could you see changes in the staff….absolutely. But I don’t see Weiberg pulling the trigger.
Well, during the Gundy/BOR drama in Dec it was said that the other person that BOR chairman Harrell didn’t like was Holliday. I think that came from RA so who knows. I’m not on the fire Holliday train yet, there’s still too much time left in the season, and his past success buys him more time. That and he bleeds OSU baseball, as does the whole family.

I’d be happy though with staff changes, mainly Rob out. The two starters last year seem to be mostly an outlier. We’ve had too much inconsistency and mismanagement in recent years with pitching. I can’t stand all the walks and walking in runs. I don’t know who is coaching the field this year but it’s been middle school level horrendous.

Rob Walton over the years has been outstanding compared to our hitters. Josh doesn’t know how to coach hitting period and doesn’t seem to know how to hire hitting coaches. This is undeniable. It sucks but he has under performed with the best facilities in the nation. OSU baseball deserves better. But he will be back next year and we’ll still be complaining about the hitting woes for the umpteenth year in a row.

My oldest son went to a camp year before or after the CWS trip. Josh was teaching hitting to all the campers and he told the boys & girls that he didn't care what they did with the bat as long as they were on time. Alwasy thought that was a little odd especially with kids that want to wiggle the bat all over which, typically took longer to get on time. Maybe they just arent ready to swing when the time comes for whatever reason and Josh dosent know how to get them there?

The pitching has been up and down…I do think it’s time for a change. I truly believe the game has passed Walton sadly

Exactly like the Gundy situation. He believes he is "OSU baseball" and will not make any changes without being forced to do so.
