MLB Draft 2024-Cowboy Edition

Figured since the draft is tomorrow, might as well get a thread going!

Draft eligible

Junior:
OF/RHP Carson Benge (18th ranked prosepct according to MLB.com)
OF Zach Ehrhard (221st ranked prospect MLB.com)
INF Aiden Meola
RHP Robert Cranz
RHP Brian Holiday (223rd ranked prospect MLB.com)
RHP Janzen Keisel (248th ranked prospect MLB.com) Transferred to Oregon via portal
RHP Tommy Molsky
INF Collin Brueggeman
C Ian Daugherty
LHP Ryan Ure (Redshirt Sophomore)

Obviously Benge is gone....it's also expected for Ehrhard, Meola, Cranz, Holiday, Keisel, Molksy to be drafted and sign. Collin, Ian, and Ryan are 50/50 but you never know who'll draft who. Ryan Ure is intriguing in the sense he's a redshirt Sophomore coming off TJ Surgery. Went to the MLB Draft Combine a few weeks ago and did well, showcasing 3 pitches and topping out at 97 MPH on his fastball. He's been in the Cape Cod pitching for the Brewster Whitecaps, so it's clear he's trying to get seen, drafted, and sign even though he could come back.

Senior:
OF Jaxson Crull
RHP Evan O'Toole
RHP Ryan Bogusz
INF Tyler Wulfert
INF Lane Forsythe
RHP Sam Garcia
RHP Bryson Hudgens

I expect most of these guys to go undrafted but hopefully someone will give them a chance in pro ball especially Forsythe and Garcia

2024 HS Signee

LHP Kash Mayfield (30th ranked prospect MLB.com)
RHP Braylon Doughty (36th ranked prospect MLB.com)
OF Garrett Shull (76th ranked prospect MLB.com)
C Sir Jamison Jones
RHP Matthew Brown
RHP/INF Noah Wech
INF Brock Thompson
LHP Cale Sudderth
INF Ben Reiland
LHP Ethan Lund
INF Caleb Hoover
INF Braylon Brooks
RHP Brex Caldwell
RHP Jett Hope
RHP Kash Ferris
C Thomas Lieb
RHP Stormy Rhodes
C Parker Reese

This is a very talented group, probably top 8-10 recruiting class, but with every talented class the question is how many make it to campus? This class will have some draft casualties. Mayfield, Doughty, and Shull aren't expected to make but you never know with contract negotiations and how much these players are asking to sign. Guys to keep an eye on are LHP Ethan Lund. Had a really good senior year mix 3-4 pitches for strikes. At 6'5 200 lb, he sat 92-94 MHP in the spring topping out at 96. He's done some MLB summer games on the HS level and performed well. Sir Jamison Jones is another to keep an eye on. Was also at the Draft Combine for HS and did really well in catching drills and put on a light show during BP. RHP Noah Wech is HS senior that is currently pitching in the northwoods league for Fond du Lac Dock Spiders. He has a 2.31 in 11.2 innings pitched and 3 appearances.

JUCO Signees
INF Caden Powell (Seminole State CC) National JUCO Player of the Year
INF Bradyn Smith (Iowa Western CC)

Powell is the only one to worry about. Here is why he was the NJCAA national POY: 502 batting average. 1.088 slugging percentage. 109 hits. 104 RBI. 32 homeruns. 17 doubles. 7 triples. Also stole 18 bases for good measure. He also plays SS if I didn't mention.

Thanks for sharing!!! Question…how did Wake Forest make such a sudden run the past few years and had 3 of the top 10 picks??

Recruiting and coaching…their 2019 and 2020 recruiting classes were really good. They have arguably the best pitching lab in the nation that’s attracting pitchers.

First 2 rounds are complete

Benge and mayfield go in the first….doughty goes in the competitive rounds in the first to the guardians. All 3 were expected to go in the first day.

Rounds 3-10 will take place tomorrow afternoon. HS players to keep an eye on is OF Garrett Shull from Enid. Round 3-4 will be crucial for teams who have enough money to sign him.

Looking forward to see how many of our guys get drafted tomorrow
