“We only had two quality at-bats in five innings,” OSU coach Kenny Gajewski said. “We didn’t even hit any other balls hard. We didn’t draw a walk, a hit-by-pitch, any of that. That’s the disappointing thing as a team, playing the way we’ve been playing against the schedule we’ve played. "
“I wasn’t expecting us to throw a shutout here today. I don’t think anybody was. That’s a good offense and they can score. So I thought we were gonna have to score runs, and I thought we were gonna score runs. That’s the disappointing thing.”
This is what concerns me. We knew what to expect from Crandall and Downing. If if Ruby had pitched, this still would have been an L. In regional play, somebody may get to Ruby early and put up a crooked number. You can't wait 5 innings to get going. Our AB's in the first few innings recently have been sluggish. With veteran hitters 1 through 7, we shouldn't need a freshman to bail us out. There shouldn't be one time through that order than somebody doesn't get a hit, draw a walk, or square up a ball. Hopefully today they'll be locked in and stay locked in.
