KU at OSU

They must have a team meeting before every game Ruby doesn’t pitch and decide it will be a loss so might as well not try and hit. I don’t care if we give up 7-8 runs we should be scoring 10

We average 6.4 runs per game (which, amazingly, would be a school record, but only 8th in the league this year). We don't have the offense to keep up when Ruby isn't pitching.

RPI fell to 15 after yesterday, with Georgia taking 2 of 3 from Florida. Kind of feels like today's game may have a regional on the line. (Yes there are still some Big 12 games, too, but you really don't want to lose this one)

“We only had two quality at-bats in five innings,” OSU coach Kenny Gajewski said. “We didn’t even hit any other balls hard. We didn’t draw a walk, a hit-by-pitch, any of that. That’s the disappointing thing as a team, playing the way we’ve been playing against the schedule we’ve played. "

“I wasn’t expecting us to throw a shutout here today. I don’t think anybody was. That’s a good offense and they can score. So I thought we were gonna have to score runs, and I thought we were gonna score runs. That’s the disappointing thing.”

This is what concerns me. We knew what to expect from Crandall and Downing. If if Ruby had pitched, this still would have been an L. In regional play, somebody may get to Ruby early and put up a crooked number. You can't wait 5 innings to get going. Our AB's in the first few innings recently have been sluggish. With veteran hitters 1 through 7, we shouldn't need a freshman to bail us out. There shouldn't be one time through that order than somebody doesn't get a hit, draw a walk, or square up a ball. Hopefully today they'll be locked in and stay locked in.

On Rosie

“She’s so selfless,” Gajewski said of Davis. “I’ve heard our coaches say we’ve never seen her have a bad day. She’s had some times when she hasn’t played well, but she keeps showing up. It’s Rosie. I’ve got some other kids who need to take a little advice from that. It’s still just softball.

“This isn’t a coaching staff that hounds you and looks down on you if you don’t go 4 for 4. That’s not how we’ve ever been. That’s not who we ever are. It’s really tough when we don’t get the same thing back. And that’s what I appreciate about Rose. She is in it for this place.”

Subtle jab taken by Kenny. Wonder who he's referencing? He's had a few other players like this, Busby comes to mind.

Austin makes a leaping catch in LF to rob extra bases
FLyout to LF, Warsop tnis time
Groundout 3B

A little different first inning than yesterday, Austin may have saved a run with that catch though.

B1
Timm doubles to RCF wall, that time caught up to a rise ball
Godwin grounds out to 2B, Timm to 3rd
Rosie taps to P, throw home gets away and everyone is safe
McDonald GIDP

Cowgirls lead 1-0

Ryan Breeden mentions the focus in the cllub house was players' batting average with 1-0 and other leverage counts. You saw it that inning. Rosie gets up 2-0 and barely makes any contact, luckly KU made an error. McDonald also gets ahead 1-0 in the count and then doesn't pulll the trigger (check swing foul) on a 1-0 pitch down the middle, and eventually GIDP. Interesting info.
