Holy cow……the more that comes out……

I mean, does anyone find this shocking or revealing?

I flipped on the Arizona game and the very first play was the one where Fafita made 3 guys miss in the backfield, then hit a WR who made 3 guys miss and scored a TD. That play pretty much epitomizes how bad we are at this point. So Bowen’s comment is anything but shocking.

It’s not shocking, it tarnishes what otherwise would have been a helluva legacy.

Dude wasn’t asleep at the wheel, he wasn’t even in the vehicle. Sad times.

I would imagine none of it. Most likely whatever he gets paid at his next job will offset what PSU owes him.
Yeah, they canned him, so they are on the hook for the buyout. Depending on contract verbiage I would imagine Verbal is correct. If he is pissed at that school, then he may be on the cheap at his next stop just to make them pay for their decision. Definitely worth a call.

Is that due to traditional contract language? So if OSU hires Franklin first 5 years, $10m/year Franklin essentially gets nothing from Penn?

If yes, I assume OSU would get out from Gundy’s buyout if someone hires him for next season?

Most coaches contracts that require full payment if fired without cause have offsetting language, Jimbo's was a rare exception. Correct PSU wouldn't owe him anything.

I am not sure on Gundy's since we don't owe him the full amount. I would guess that there isn't offsetting language but that is a total guess.

It always strikes me as curious that absolutely dismal coaching performances isn’t a “cause” for being fired.

At least a coach is recognizing it and owning it. That hasn't happened at OSU in a long time.

After the conclusion of the 2025–2026 season, there is a 99% chance that Auburn will name Mike Gundy as head coach and Cale Gundy as offensive coordinator. There is serious mutual interest between both parties, and this deal will likely be finalized soon.

However, UCLA and Florida State are also going all in on Mike Gundy.. This is why I said 99% instead of 100%. I’d bet my house that Mike will become Auburn’s head coach after the conclusion of the 2025–2026 season, because he wants to coach in the SEC. Tennessee nearly hired Gundy a some years ago. Can't remember exactly how long ago..maybe 3-5 years ago

Mike himself said that his family had their luggage packed and were just a few hours away from boarding a plane. As he drove to the OSU campus, he saw the football stadium and changed his mind.

He now has the opportunity to coach in the SEC. I bet Gundy will turn the Auburn football program into a national title contender. Maybe not right away.. probably around year 3

The only person who turned the Auburn program into a national title contender was Cam Newton. I highly doubt the Gundii will either, because Auburn.

Interesting take, do you have any articles backing this up? Or is this just off of a feeling?

I think Gundys attorneys, suspecting this would happen, closed any loopholes on this! He had the best law firm in Oklahoma working for him! 🤔

Will Venables be his defensive coordinator

They’re all different. Jimbo got the whole wad from A&M, whereas others are prorated over time. I heard Neuheisel talking about this today, in relation to Franklin being fired, & he talked about how Malzahn’s deal requiring 50% being paid within 30 days. So he got $10.5 million within a month.

With Franklin going from being ranked top 5 16 days ago & going into OT with Oregon to being fired, you have to think that the steep buyouts aren’t going away.

No decent P4 programs are coming for Gundy. He's shown himself to be a lazy, complacent doofus who completely burned his own program down. The SEC would chew him up and spit him out. No one outside of a G5 program would hire him.
