He is reporting Gundy has been relieved of his duties. No word on an interim coach yet...
Yes. We must AT LEAST be a bowl team for our athletic department to have a chance across the board.Thank you Mike Gundy for all of the wins, great seasons and memories.
That being said, it was time. Hopefully our administration is ready to make the decisions to keep us competitive. Its not just about football. Our other sports and university at large are relying on it.
Yea I had the same thought. They must of had a meeting and pitched letting him finish the season and "retire" but he balked so they just ripped the band aid off.I can only guess and hope that they gave him the option to announce his retirement effective at the end of the season but he refused, based on his comments yesterday about being happy and planning to fulfill his contract.
KWTV-6 said press conference at 3:30 PM today.6 and 9 reporting it now too
35 years of his life given to OSU. This isn’t a day to celebrate whether we wanted it to happen or not.If this is true, it's a sad day for OSU.
I've been one of Gundy's biggest "haters" over the years, but nobody can deny the levels of success under his watch. I just hope we can find someone that can bring new life to what has been a steadily declining program for a long time.
I also wish Mike Gundy and his family all the best going forward, wherever that might be. Heck, maybe he would even remain in Stillwater and support OSU (though that seems unlikely).
You never tell someone they are getting fired and expect them to continue to work hard. They probably tried to develop an exit strategy and he said no they just went ahead and fired him. While I agree the move was needed, I don’t like the timing. I know many won’t agree and that’s fine but I think you wait until the season is over to do this. Inform Mike that this will be his last season and they will be putting a committee together and plans in place for the next hire. Just my opinion.
