2024 Presidential Election

Already soooo tired of reading on social media that 'God's Will' was done in this election...WTF...if it's God's will, then is this outcome what he wanted or desired for our country? If it is, God hates U.S....

The border was never made opened. Instead, the border patrol was overwhelmed by many more thousands wanting in and getting in as in the Chinese who were coming in at a gap at the end of a fence. No border patrol around to stop them. Of course, one may say border was the same as wide open. Trump stopped efforts for more border control, so it will be interesting to see how sincere he is in getting the border under better control. To answer that question independent candidate for president Dr. Shiva said, "F--k no!"
There were gates at the border that were literally welded open. Physically it was open and fused such that the gate could not shut. Among the first actions as president Biden un-did immigration measures Trump had in place. We can argue the effectiveness of the measures that they were reversed cannot be argued. It can be argued that covid had a big part in the dip in crossings that the number of crossings grew to levels never seen cannot be argued. So at a minimum it looks really bad.

Stuff like this is a lot of what cost the dems the election. So many people crossed there aren't accurate counts....the head of DHS couldn't quantify the amount of humanity crossing when testifying before congress. Then a bill was thrown together after it was clear Trump was the opponent 75% of the money applied had nothing to do with the border and instead funded wars that started under the Biden/Harris watch that diplomatic efforts have done very little and are both escalating. That makes it an Ukraine/Israel military spending bill not a border security bill. Then the play was to lay the border problem at Trump's feet. Most people saw through that. A better strategy would have been to say "mistakes were made and we are working to get control of the border and create lasting immigration reform".....but what was said was Trump killed the bill that would fix it and I can't think of anything I would do differently. Both of those were a bad message. This isn't a debate about border control at this point......again millions of people in the middle didn't vote blue this time. They didn't because stuff like this is BS and if you look at it for what it is not "Trump is evil" or "Kamala wants to let millions of votes walk in" and just look at what happened regardless of where you land politically you can see the strategy was flawed.

Come on PF5 you know no one loves mixed signals like god....

I’m not disagreeing with you. I would add that when we’re talking policy the issue is personhood, and as I said, I am not as sure about the ethics as I once was.

It is a difficult concept for sure. And, there are a lot of people absolutely convinced that it is straightforward and they are right, when they really just haven't given it enough thought.

Trump was overly harsh on many aspects of the border. Instead of adjusting that to normalcy, the dems swung the pendulum too far the other way. I agree with you that it really cost them. I also think if the border bill had passed it might have saved them, which Trump clearly did not want and they didnt have an answer to that whcih cist em yet again.

I agree with all of that. The way the bill was structured gave the GOP all they needed to say there motives weren’t political. Their motives were political. But anyone can say they weren’t serious or the border bill would have been a border bill not 3/4s for something else. The cost would have been lower and the priorities clear. They could have yanked the military part and made the GOP look really bad. But it was never a serious bill it was a band aid and a way to send more money to unpopular (in many ways on both sides) wars. They screwed up the optics on both ends. They called anyone calling for border measures racist….thats why Biden couldn’t get something done early on….so it’s hard to pass a bill about something you called people racist over. Additionally being overly harsh has better optics than opening it up. The average American doesn’t feel pain from over harsh well meaning immigrants do…..a lot did from wide open. It was horrible strategy.
