Wrestling Starters next year

There are lots of rumors, and I don't know what is true. I really thought that Jordan Williams was going to make a big jump this year, but if it happens it won't be for us. I know Carter Young has some big wins, but I need to see what he can do now. Honestly I think they should get Hughes and Jamison to the best weights for them. I don't think there is going to be much difference between them being down and using Young or them sliding up and using Witcraft. For me it is just getting Hughes and Jamison in the correct spot because Witcraft and Young will score similar points. (I have changed my mind on this since Williams left.)

When you look at OSU's 2025 recruits, hard to justify redshirts when incoming freshman may be better.

To me looks like #1 recruiting class.

I think they may try to get Fish to get down to 157 instead of redshirt and see if Travis can go at 149. If Hughes can make 133, he starts there. If not, Hughes or Jamison at 141, and Witcraft or McComas at 133. May not worry about redshirting McComas with recruits coming in.

Just looked at roster. Before Hughes was 133/141. Now he is 133. Jamison was 141/149. Now he is 141. Fish was 157/165. Now he is 157.

Travis is still listed at 157, so maybe Young at 149. Or maybe it changes.

I talked to Surber a few days ago. He's excited, kept a lot of things close to the vest. Said we are really going to enjoy the fan experience.

No real breaking news - expecting to see a line-up close to this for the opener:

125: Spratley
133: Witcraft
141: Jamison or Hughes
149: Jamison or Young
157: Travis
165: Amine
174: Hamiti
184: Plott
197: Merrill or Surber
285: Captain America

There are a few different things going on which will be interesting to see how they play out. We won’t know for sure till 11/15.

I feel like Surber (and Jordan Williams previously) has the chance for the biggest jump. He attacks and has some big wins. If he can be more consistent and situationally sound, he will be a threat to beat anyone, any given day.

I agree that Surber has a chance to be an AA. He wasn't that far off in 2022/2023 season. I think he was in round of 16. Lost to guy from Cornell (who has transferred to Michigan) who finished 8th. 2023/2024 season was bust for him as was injured and at less than 100%.

I think fact OSU roster shows Hughes at 133, where before had him at 133/141 says something. Likewise I think fact Fish is now listed at 157 instead of 157/165, and Jamison at 141 instead of 141/149 may be a clue where lineup is going.

So it’s shaping up more like this…..

125: Spratley
133: Hughes
141: Jamison
149: Travis
157: Fish
165: Amine
174: Hamiti
184: Plott
197: Surber
285: Hendrickson

That is a very stout line-up, especially coached up by our current staff!

Interesting development. It’s been a minute; heard first hand that Fish would be the only RS among the transfers. Perhaps he’s now beating Travis consistently?

This seems to be one of 4 scenarios that we are waiting to see how they play out.

Hughes can't make 33 & Fish is RS. Jamison isn't eligible til after January
