Who Should OSU Hire as Next Basketball Head Coach?

Regarding my post I've quoted, Steve is no longer a strong candidate - but is a backup plan. Some boosters were not impressed by Steve.

And it appears that a coach will not be hired before April 15th; when portal opens. Possible candidates leave me bewildered. I hope Chad knows what he's doing. Thing is... OSU basketball is not a desirable program. That is evident considering how many coaches have declined an interview with Chad. This is not my opinion. I am merely stating a fact that is obvious. I cannot believe how far OSU has fallen.

The next HC has one helluva difficult job ahead of him. And Chad isn't making it easier by waiting so long before hiring a new HC. I don't understand Chad's reasoning.
Just how wrong are you trying to be? You can’t play both sides against the middle. Make up your mind.

Please no to Richard Patino. He was run out of Minnesota. He is from that same offensive mindset of trying to force a 1:1 and jacking up 3’s. Not to mention his success has been average at best.

I agree, but added because the name came up in the thread. Would be a very disappointing hire.

To be fair to Scott Drew, he took over when baylor had one of the worst scandals and punishments ever. They werent allowed to even play nonconference games for a while.
Fair. I just remember thinking how bad of a coach he was, and then all of a sudden not so much :ROFLMAO:

I disagree. The Oklahoma State basketball program is a highly desirable job to people who know how hungry the fans are for a winner. Any program with a history of the highest success is capable of reaching it again. It will happen again in Stillwater with the right leadership.

Basketball requires a great coach and 5 8 (some depth is required :ROFLMAO:) guys, not 22. That is do-able for any coach with vision, motivation, and an ability to work with young folx. Let's find that guy.

Because you need more than 5 guys to be successful at basketball. 6, maybe if you’re in super good shape and you never foul anybody. 7, that’s tough because you really can’t practice and are still thin. 8 is about where the best teams play because those eight guys in some combination are always on the floor. 5 and a good coach isn’t enough.:ROFLMAO:

So you say that in a reply post. You don't take the liberty of editing a guy's post.

The rest of the post was perfect. Easier just to make it ‘8’ guys and a coach.

To the substance, you don't need 8 guys, or even 5.

You can have 1 superstar and 2 really good players, and then the rest good role players.

You can have 3 great players and the rest role players.

You can have four really good players and the rest role players.

With any of these combinations, you need a point guard and some size.

That's a winning formula in college. Our 2004 and 1995 teams that went to the Final Four are good examples.

Lmao, I totally get the disconnect. I meant 8 live bodies (as a light hearted interaction) in any combo you just listed. You’re dead on accurate. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Was sitting here thinking, WTF is happening. My bad.

The kentucky game yesterday proves that NIL is useless when it comes to tournament success. Obviously in season success is largely driven by that, but HCMB had more Mcdonalds All-Americans than any coach in OSU history and didn't win. Talent is part of the equation, but coaching is a fundamental to success.
All you have to do is get into the tournament and anything can happen. Look at the Final Four last year or better yet, look at 2021, the sea's parted and all we had ahead of us for a trip to the FF was a 12 an 8, and a (maybe) bit overrated 2. We have to have a coach who can get us into the tournament first and foremost, but it would also be nice to have one who could take advantage of opportunities like that when they happen.

My guess would be that this is his 11th season but only his first tournament appearance. I think he still probably deserves a look though.
Yep, that’s fair. I misread his past record.

Wish we could find a TJ Otzelberger ( yes I had to google it again) All he’s done is take ISU to the tourney three years in a row since he started.

So does him being at Iowa State as an assistant or the tutelage of Hoiberg or both the reason for his success?

Where are Eddie Sitton’s assistants? I know I’m exposing my Orange to not knowing this. Is Eddie’s “style” a recipe for success nowadays? I say yes. Because what I think I saw was a coach that took good players, very few with NBA talent, and made basketball TEAMS that played hard and seemed to relish and thrive the battlefield of the Big 12.

That said, I’m not sure the game occupies that space anymore.
