Could it be possible the candidates you want don't want the job?I would guess Chad thinks he has the "best," if the inside information is correct. Others disagree.

You didn't read the pages of discussion on here when Mike was running out that three QB rotation?Have you seen our football record?
That all depends, is Gary Ward the batting coach or is Josh Holiday the batting coach if we take the swing? There are certainly worse hires. But it is a bunt to advance the runner from 1st to 2nd. I'd rather we take a swing.
Fair enough but the being top dog with 0u and texass gone conversation is NOT the same in basketball as it is football. The top dogs in basketball in what will be the new conference are ku and zona by a long shot. We won't supplant them. With the ability to flip rosters year-to-year, rebuilding is no longer a 4-5 year job. It is 2-3 max now. Heck, Eddie stepped into a program that sucked for 30 years and went straight to a Sweet 16 in 1991. We talk about wanting to be the "big dog" in the conference now that OU/UT are gone, okay, let's act like it and hire someone we believe can take us to the promised land. We don't need a bridge coach, that concept is dead.
It is what it is, I'll be hopeful if it is Alford. I'll look forward to a more consistent and solid team. If Alford does what he usually does, he probably lands a contract extension and retires here. It would be anticlimactic, but hopefully GIA & the Big 12 makes his teams a little more competitive than they were in Iowa and we see a few more NCAA tournament appearances (he had 3 in 8 yrs for the Hawkeyes). What do we do if Alford is the best coach that is interested in the job?
I agree but I am not going to be as concerned about what he did 20 years ago at Iowa.It is what it is, I'll be hopeful if it is Alford. I'll look forward to a more consistent and solid team. We should be aiming to be in the top 5 in good years and top 9 in down years. I realize the world of NIL might make seasons more prone to seesaw effects, but in generally that is my goal. Be a consistent top 5 Big 12 basketball team or be really damn competitive in that arena.Fair enough but the being top dog with 0u and texass gone conversation is NOT the same in basketball as it is football. He hasn't done much at Nevada. Musselman and Fox accomplished a lot more in Reno than Alford has. It has been fairly unimpressive. Not bad, but nothing that suggests he needs a promotion.I agree but I am not going to be as concerned about what he did 20 years ago at Iowa.
I think you’re being a bit dramatic.

Not anymoreWe only have hitting coaches

DeVries is my first choice, Wade is my second. Will Wade is a winner. Give me Will Wade. It’s legal now…. We have had nice guy, now give us wins.
Coaches learn, change, and develop over the years, just like players. Maybe it's better to consider who they are today instead of review who they were 20 years ago?Of all the programs Steve Alford has coached at, Iowa is probably the most comparable to OSU. Would we be happy with this level of success?

This would be better than the Boynton era, but similar to the Ford era.
I agree. While he has done okay this year, in the last few years, while he has done better than Boynton, I’m not that impressed with him.Coaches learn, change, and develop over the years, just like players. Just a thought.
Steve Alford took over a Nevada program that had been to 3 straight NCAA Tournaments, and he missed the NCAA Tournament in his first 3 years. He hasn't really had more successful at his current job than he had at Iowa. There are coaches like Leonard Hamilton & Greg McDermott that improved significantly with time. Alford doesn't seem to fit into this category.Coaches learn, change, and develop over the years, just like players. This is absolutely delusional if you're talking about on the national stage and not the conference stage. Kansas isn't top 10 nationally in down years. We should be aiming to be in the top 5 in good years and top 9 in down years. Alford also took over a team that graduated 5 of it's top six contributors. And for referencd, Thad Matta is basically the same age as Eddie was when he came to OSU.Steve Alford took over a Nevada program that had been to 3 straight NCAA Tournaments, and he missed the NCAA Tournament in his first 3 years. If we're going to go after an older coach that's arguably past their prime, we might as well hire Thad Matta from Butler. He's taken two teams to the Elite 8, and he has a better overall resume:

Thad Matta is an interesting candidate. He retired at Ohio State due to health issues as the all-time winningest coach there. He could be successful here if he's healthy and still has the fire to coach. I would be more excited about him than Alford.Alford also took over a team that graduated 5 of it's top six contributors.
