So should we get rid of John Smith....he's hard core, old school. He made Mastrogiovanni cry. Coach even said these kids were soft. We don't need Bobby Knight, but we need someone who isn't their friend. You can't be friends with these kids. Eddie was mean, but those guys loved him because they knew he was molding them into men.

I wouldn't say Eddie was mean. He was hard on them yes, but they knew he cared about them. There was a relationship. Seems like Boynton and Underwood are on opposite sides of the spectrum and Eddie falls in the middle.
I really can't recall a time seeing our team step on the floor and being so uncompetitive. I understand that our AD may find it difficult financially to pull the trigger. That said, I don't see how we can afford to NOT make a move rather than let HCMB continue digging a deeper hole.
I'd rather be 6 more years down the Underwood path than where we are now. That said, there has to be a balance for coaches. Coach nice guy is just awful and can't win games. Coach D**khead wins but allegedly he's mean and everyone hates him. Of course his SFA guys didn't. his Illinois guys don't. Dare I ask, could it have been our guys were the issue?
Both Suttons were intense.
Ford was intense (damn near crucified for cussing TOWARD (not at) Obi.
Underwood is intense, 23-8 (15-3 at home) avg 14,990 fans per home game.
Kelvin Sampson is intense, he only has the number 1 team in the country, again. A team that plays in a manner that I would sacrifice Jobu's rum for to have as our team.
I am not defending how Underwood left us, nor do I think he's some pillar of the community but it didn't have to be this way. And in an age where 18-22 year olds are demanding 6 figures, I don't give a f**k if their coach "is mean to them" they're being compensated to win not be babied and pampered.

Underwood and Sampson are not in the same zip code with respect to the culture they bring to their programs. Sampson proves you don't have to act like a horse's behind to win.

They’ve got way more in common with each other than they do with Boynton.
Again, I am in no way, shape, or form an Underwood defender but his ability to coach and lead programs is far superior to what we’re dealing with right now. And most of the successful programs don’t have coach crybaby nice guy Charmin at the helm. There’s a reason our teams and style of play directly reflect that softness. Mentally and physically.

He's been thrown out once in 10 years at Houston. But ok. He also had recruiting violations at Indiana. But he seems to have everything between the bumpers now.
We need to have a championship basketball team, and we need to it in a way that our university can be proud of. Without basic decency, it's just not worth it.

And no one said otherwise. Being a bit of an ass is in just about every winning coaches dna. Yet some how that seemed to translate into some kind of abusive situations that was never implied.

I figure at this point, it is best for both parties to part ways. oSu cannot afford to have another season with home attendance ranked 12th, and you can pretty much assume the same (or worse) to forecast attendance for next year. If our MBB NIL is supposedly as bad as coach says it is, I don't see it improving and does he really want to stick around while being handcuffed (supposedly). His complaints to the TW earlier this year had kind of a 'quiet quitting' vibe to me. Best case scenario is Weiberg/Boynton agree to a reduced buyout and part ways ASAP.

Fairmont State was a full-court pressing team whose opponents were averaging 17.7 turnovers per game. Its athleticism seemed overwhelming. McCollum didn’t sleep for two nights trying to figure out a plan of attack. Eventually, he widened his lens. Fairmont coach Jerrod Calhoun (now the head coach at Youngstown State), was part of the Bob Huggins tree. So McCollum studied Huggins’ Press Virginia squad, looking for a press breaker that worked against the Mountaineers. He remembered then-Oklahoma State coach Brad Underwood had worked for Huggins as well. And on Feb. 4, 2017, the Cowboys scored 82 points in 63 possessions at West Virginia, the highest efficiency all season against the defense that caused more turnovers than any other in D-1 that year. McCollum copied OSU’s press breakers and taught them to his team the day of the game. Northwest Missouri had only 12 turnovers and won 71-61.
