US continues to go backward...

Anybody want to defend this administration?

Wow Spiegel is like the most respected newspaper in Germany too

They love killing regulations, even if those regulations save people money in energy costs and reduce demand on.a strained power grid.
I would hope we all would love killing regulations and giving choice to Americans as to what they want to purchase and install in their homes. Most of what they voted are not old regulations, but ones the DOE added less than 2 years ago and haven’t been implemented.

Blackouts for choice! Very few Americans are purchasing walk in refrigerators for their homes or large eletric motors. This is not to help Americans.

-
Under Biden, the DOE’s appliance efficiency program boosted the standards for more than two dozen product classes, though the implementation of those standards for some appliances is still years away. The agency in December estimated that the stronger appliance standards would save consumers about $1 trillion and cut emissions by 2.5 billion metric tons over three decades.-

Saving about a trillion and cutting emissions sounds horrible. Give me "choice" of less efficient products instead. And, if I wnat the efficient product but they don't make it? Where is the choice there?

-“And that’s a big rule … a massive amount of energy consumed in industry and commercial buildings is in electric motors,” deLaski said. The rule was supported by manufacturers and utilities, he added, leading to the fundamental question: “When is a rule final?”

The now-withdrawn rule for electric motors was expected to save American businesses up to $56 billion on utility bills and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 156 million metric tons over 30 years of sales, ASAP said in January, pointing to DOE estimates.-

All for bigger bills and a strained grid? Yea congress!

So even the Biden administration claims that savings is $56B over 30 years….or said another way…about $15/year per household.
Saving $15 per year sounds nice. Could almost take two people to McDonalds. Wonder how much additional cost the new regulations were going to add to the cost of each appliance? My guess is more than a couple of Big Macs.

And said "newly efficient" refrigerators most likely last 5 years instead of the 15-20 years. So now your family down an additional $1500 every 10 years and you have 200 million additional refrigerators in the landfill every decade.

Pretty sure that's more planned design life than due to efficiency. It's essentially the same thing as planned obsolescence but without having to improve/change the design over time.

They’re just trying to make some money. How can you be mad at them artificially lowering the life expectancy just to make a little more profit. Do they not deserve to live a comfortable life?

I don’t know if the newly efficient appliances will last less than current appliances. I hope not, but I don’t enjoy that my brand-new highly efficient dishwasher takes 3 hours and 21 minutes to run a cycle (although it is unbelievably quiet).

But fact remains this is not a money saver for citizens. Anyone believing that is not paying attention…or bothering to read the details of the Biden-era rules. Even the Biden administrations own estimates showed their new “energy efficiency” regulations would raise cost of a new furnace by $900, water-heaters by $1000, and air conditioners by over 10%.

Of course, the media and the spoon-fed low-information voters focus on $56Billion. Not realizing they will be spending way more than they are saving in energy costs.

But yea…households will save $1.25 per month!

Future flight bookings from Canada to the U.S. are down more than 70% for every month from April through September compared to last year, according to new data from aviation analytics firm OAG. In April — typically peak spring break travel season to sunny spots like Florida — there are just under 300,000 bookings compared to 1.2 million in 2024.

It's Bidens fault!!!

Id agree to a point. However, efficiency ratings are standardized tests, and these manufacturers build to those testing standards and not real-world use. In the end we get smaller motors doing more work and in the real world about the same efficiency. Look no further than all these turbo v6 motors in full size trucks. The sticker tells you it gets 27 Mpg on the highway.... reality they get the same 20mpg the V8s get and are good for about 50,000 miles less in reliability. But that tune for the standardized tests keeps the companies out of hot water.
