Ukraine. Ukraine. Ukraine.

Welcome back. First post in this thread for a couple of months.

So how do you think this whole peace in the Ukraine is going about now?

Not much has changed in the actual situation as far as fighting. Russia has a military that is superior in every way and nuclear weapons. Ukraine cannot win this war without direct intervention by us or a group of European armies. Putin is still a dictator that can't blink and must have a win and Zelensky is still a clown. The instant Russia decides to advance they can.....that has always been the case and it more so now that less aid is being given.

Your views from a couple of months back changed any?
Not really. I don't think this is some move to conquer all of Europe next unless it's the dumbest one in the history of large scale war. He wants NATO off his doorstep and Crimea is the consolation prize....lots of folks in Crimea want him to have it.....if that's what it cost to end this then that's what it costs. I don't like that but here we are.....

How's Trump and the boys doing in your eyes with this issue. We know what your views on Biden's handling of this were, but I haven't a clue what your thoughts on whether Trump is handling it any better.
I like some of Trump's ideas on it but the execution is reckless to say the least. He is actually trying to end it which is a good thing throwing billions at is was only going to cost billions. I like the concept of the minerals deal...we recoup some dollars they get ongoing protection.... but lack faith in him bringing it home because every day the strategy on that seems to change which means there is no strategy. I like that he is bringing Zelensky to heel instead of propping him up cause he has no teeth so he needs to quit growling.....but fussing like children in the oval office and commenting on wardrobe is ridiculous and embarrassing to our nation. You all know I am for this thing ending as soon as it can but we can't walk completely away as has been threatened without a formal resolution. We absolutely had a hand in making this mess so there isn't a circumstance where we should simply walk away from it. That would be as bad.....really worse than Biden. I think the NATO nations need to put all the way up or shut all the way up and that's the one thing I wish our overly brash asshole of a president would say in a clear way not Trump way. Instead of pissing matches with Zelensky which strengthen the Russian position and send him running to EU countries that aren't going to do anything tangible I wish he would tell the saber rattlers across the pond a ticket to this dance costs X $B so pay up and quit buying oil/gas or go sit back down at the kids table. Putin is a lot of horrible things but he isn't stupid.....he attacked at the right time. World reeling from a pandemic, Europe in economic and political turmoil, weakest US pres in forever, song and dance man leading Ukraine. He still has most all the cards and isn't walking away empty handed. I hope since the initial "I'll have this done in 15 minutes" play didn't work that there is actual coordinated effort to weaken Russia in the mean time and there could be......EU is saying no more Russian gas after 27......price of oil is being driven down which gives him good publicity at home while hurting Putin but I don't have faith that he is that sophisticated at anything. IF that is going on it would be great it's hard to imagine that is the actual strategy with tariffs hurting ties to China while India is fussing with Pakistan making BRICS friends closer friends.

Vice President Vance said that the Trump administration believes Russia is “asking for too much” in peace talks to bring an end to the war in Ukraine.

“I wouldn’t say that the Russians are uninterested in bringing this thing to a resolution,” Vance said. “What I would say is, right now the Russians are asking for a certain set of requirements, a certain set of concessions in order to end the conflict. We think they’re asking for too much.”

Russia attacks Ukraine with drones after Trump-Putin call

Russia launched more than 100 drones into Ukraine following the conclusion of a phone call between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Ukraine's air force said, and as the world waited for what Trump said would be an immediate resumption of peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv.

Ukraine's air force wrote on Telegram that its forces shot down 35 of the 108 Russian drones launched into the country overnight, with a further 58 jammed or otherwise neutralized while in flight. The air force reported damage on the ground in four Ukrainian regions.

Russia's Defense Ministry said its forces shot down eight Ukrainian drones overnight.

Cross-border drone exchanges occur near-nightly and have increased in size and sophistication throughout the 3-year-old war. Monday night's barrage came despite Trump's latest assurance that a peace deal between the two sides is possible, following a phone call with Putin that lasted two hours.

"I think something's going to happen," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office after the call. "It's a very, very big egos involved, I tell you, big egos involved. But I think something's going to happen. And if I thought that President Putin did not want to get this over with, I wouldn't even be talking about it because I'd just pull out."

Markwayne Mullin on the Russia-Ukraine war: "The best thing that's taken place in Europe is the war, because all the other countries are waking up."

Rep. Mark Green: "I think we really just need to listen to Trump, Putin, the Kremlin, and our NSC folks. That's the folks we need to be listening to."

ICYMI — Ben Shapiro: “I am not sure what Trump wants from Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy has agreed to a ceasefire, minerals deal, and negotiations. This 'both sides-ism' from Trump is exactly why Putin is pushing.”
