I bought a dozen eggs today for $1.97
The worst of the bird flu epidemic was over in March so retail should be coming down. Im seeing regular eggs cheaper than cage free now, which us weird because they should always be cheaper than cage free. Still more expensive than a year ago though which is more on the grocer than disease or supply issues.
Next thing will be the pans to cook them in and the plates/silverware to serve them. I think at this point everyone knows we are going to blink when it comes to going through with tariffs but even the bluff will be enough of an excuse for retailers to raise prices.
Yeah. My industry has been going through a lot because of tariffs. Pretty much every manufacturer has added on a tariff recovery fee of some sort. It’s causing all kinds of issues because customers in my vertical budget based on bonds that were passed. Sometimes passed years ago. They can’t increase their budget, so one of three things have to happen. So, we really thought we were in for a fight in the construction world. I've seen a lot of letters on tariffs. There has been a fair amount of stress about the issue. But as of today, it's been pretty much a big nothing burger.
I can't speak for any other industry.

We manufacture products here using parts mostly from overseas with the exception of some of our more critical components that we source domestically. We sell globally and because of the previous tariffs we added a manufacturing facility in China to make our products that are being sold to Canada and other international markets. NOW we're having to find Chinese sources for our domestic parts too because of the tariffs our Chinese plant is having to deal with for our domestic components... It's a mess...Yeah. 1. We lower our price. Margins are usually so thin, we can’t do this without losing money.
2. They buy fewer products. The client doesn’t want to do this. New builds have to be completed with product. Refreshes would mean they keep some old product they were hoping to replace.
3. They choose cheaper product. We try to steer them into our value lines, but this also causes them to consider competitors and we lose sales.
We just went through a round of layoffs due to “economic uncertainty.” I wouldn’t be surprised if we go through at least another round, because Trump makes trade decisions based on his blood sugar levels.
