Rock band cancels European tour as drummer who is Mexican Citizen but held an American Green Card since the 1980's hauled off plane and detained by ICE while trying to leave US.

He been missing for 2 days without contact
An American rock band has been forced to cancel its European tour after its drummer, Yamal Said, was detained by US Customs and Border Protection in Texas. Lord Buffalo explained in an online post that Said was removed from a plane at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, despite being a legal US resident
En route to their summer tour before the incident, the band has had no contact with Said for two days. The drummer is a Mexican citizen but a legal permanent resident of the United States and the holder of a green card. Said has been a resident of Austin, Texas since the 1980s, according to the Austin Chronicle
‘We are heartbroken to announce we have to cancel our upcoming European tour,’ the band wrote on Instagram on Wednesday. ‘Our drummer, Yamal Said, who is a Mexican citizen and lawful permanent resident of the United States (green card holder) was forcibly removed from our flight to Europe
‘He has not been released, and we have been unable to contact him. We are currently working with an immigration lawyer to find out more information and to attempt to secure his release.’ An update to the statement on Wednesday afternoon told fans that the drummer had ‘secured the legal representation he needs'
‘We are waiting to hear what comes next,’ they said. ‘We want to reiterate that we truly don’t know what’s going on. We have more questions than answers, but we will keep you posted as much as we can. At this time the family asks for privacy as they navigate the situation'
A stalwart of the Austin music scene, Said formerly played with the band the Black and works as a music instructor for the Texas School for the Blind, according to the Austin Chronicle. The band was scheduled to go on an eight-date European tour to play and promote their latest album Holus Bolus. The tour, alongside the Swedish band Orsak:Oslo, was scheduled to begin on 15 May in the Netherlands

So he was LEAVING when they arrested him? Why not just not allow him back in on the return flight if they wanted him out?

Honest questions.

1. Who has judicial oversight on ICE?
2. What limits do they have on who they can arrest and hold and how long they can hold them? Because it seems like there aren't many considering they are holding green card holders, and even US citizens with proof of citizenship for days on end.

What's the basis for arresting him at all?? He is a legal US resident for 40+ years
Oh I know, I was treating that as a given/separate point and giving benefit of the doubt to call out a single separate point. Even if they had orders to kick him out, (they probably don't) he was already leaving.

Its not for the American people. There have been comparisons to the Statue of Liberty, which is ridiculous. After he is done using it, it is going to his presidential library so its something for the benefit of one president.

It has no cultural significance for either us or the people of Qatar. Multiple people in the Trump administration either lobbied for the country or were associated with them in some way prior to their current positions. And he seems to have an issue with the current Air Force One. So for some reason they came up with a $400 million plane (little more pricey than a $20K necklace).

It's probably better for you to say I'm ok with corruption because its my guy than try and downplay it. At least then you're being honest about it.
So trinkets and diamonds are ok, but a jet, that would actually be useful is corruption. Gotcha.

I am in no way vouching as to the validity of this (it does have numerous citations to authority that I didn’t verify).

It could completely be conspiracy theory thinking.

I found it interesting and in line with what we’ve seen from this administration so far. That’s it. That’s all. Read and comment if you want. Don’t if you don’t want.

This is from Google AI so cant vouch for 100% accuracy but was wondering the relationship between NRx and Project2025. There's a lot of overlap and some common players.

AI Overview

The relationship between the Dark Enlightenment (also known as neoreaction or NRx) and Project 2025 is complex and not fully defined, but there are some connections and potential influences that can be observed.
1. Overlapping Goals and Ideologies:
Anti-democratic sentiments: Both the Dark Enlightenment and Project 2025 express skepticism towards or outright rejection of liberal democracy and egalitarianism.
Desire for a "strong" executive: NRx advocates for a powerful, centralized executive authority, potentially resembling a monarch or CEO-like leader. Project 2025 also seeks to expand presidential power and potentially reduce the influence of other branches of government.
Distrust of established institutions: Both criticize and seek to dismantle what they perceive as entrenched liberal institutions ("the Cathedral" in NRx terms) and the administrative state.
2. Potential Influence and Connections:
Figures associated with both: Certain individuals, like Peter Thiel and J.D. Vance, are linked to both the Dark Enlightenment and the broader conservative movement that supports Project 2025.
Overlap in personnel: Some individuals involved in Project 2025 previously served in the Trump administration and share ideological leanings with the Dark Enlightenment.
Possible influence on Project 2025 policies: While Project 2025 doesn't explicitly endorse NRx ideology, some of its proposals align with the Dark Enlightenment's desire to dismantle existing structures and consolidate power.
3. Important Caveats:
Project 2025's primary focus: Project 2025 is primarily a policy-oriented initiative aimed at implementing a conservative agenda, while the Dark Enlightenment is a more philosophical and ideological movement.
NRx as a fringe ideology: The Dark Enlightenment is a controversial and fringe ideology, and its direct influence on mainstream political projects like Project 2025 is debated.
NRx as a potential "intellectual foundation": Some observers argue that the Dark Enlightenment provides an intellectual framework for certain aspects of the broader right-wing movement that supports initiatives like Project 2025.
In Conclusion:
The Dark Enlightenment and Project 2025 are not directly equivalent, but there are some connections and potential influences. The Dark Enlightenment's anti-democratic, anti-egalitarian, and anti-institutional views resonate with aspects of Project 2025's agenda and are promoted by some of the same individuals. It's important to note that the Dark Enlightenment is a fringe ideology, and its precise role in shaping mainstream political projects is a subject of discussion and debate.

These are both fascinating reads. What’s interesting is how religion plays a role or doesn’t and how that could play out. Thiel, Bannon and Vance (even though he recently converted to Catholicism) are not adherents to Christianity.

Project 2025 is the brainchild of the Heritage Foundation which is dominated by Christian Theology and Evangelical Conservative Christian Theology at that. Calvinists if you will.

The current makeup of the Supreme Court consists of 7 Catholics and I believe at least 5 are of a branch that is extremely conservative.

This is where it will all get interesting. Calvanists (and I am painting w a broad brush) don’t believe Catholics are Christian. Catholics (another broad brush) don’t necessarily like Calvanists playing in their sandbox although Methodists and Lutherans and some Espiscopals are allowed. Sometimes.

So you have Thiel (who is gay and as far as I can see has no use for religion), Vance (really just converted for political expediency and is married to a Hindu) and Bannon (Darth Vader) on one side. The Heritage Foundation on the other and Catholics on the other. All fighting for control.

One thing also when you look into Dark Enlightenment is to note they don’t really mention gun laws. But a lot of what they would achieve would come at the expense of the 2nd amendment (not to mention other rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights. The Wikipedia entry JD linked mentions Dubai and Hong Kong. Interesting as to their views on individual freedoms.

Donors Promised ‘VIP Experience’ at upcoming Military Events With Trump

Donors are being offered a “dedicated VIP experience” at several events that President Trump is planning with the U.S. military this summer, according to several donors familiar with the matter.

Those who give to America250, a committee created to support what Trump envisions as a large national celebration next year for America’s 250th birthday, will be given special access to three events, according to a pitch shared with donors. Those include a military parade Trump is planning on his birthday, a “military readiness” event he is leading at Fort Bragg military base with thousands of troops and an Independence Day celebration in Washington, the people said.

The America250 group—which was founded in 2016 as a nonpartisan group—is designed to support the celebrations next year. Several Trump advisers have begun working on the events, including fundraiser Meredith O’Rourke, who is handling some of the fundraising.

O’Rourke didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Trump plans to visit Fort Bragg, N.C., on June 10 for a “readiness demonstration,” according to the pitch made to donors, where he will address thousands of troops.

The rally will include a military flyover, according to the presentation, and will be filmed as part of a “national broadcast special,” donors were told.

A few days later, on June 14, Trump is attending a military parade that will proceed down Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C., according to the donor pitch. The parade will include tanks, military re-enactments and flyovers, and the president will watch from an “official review stand” before delivering remarks. Military members will then participate in a re-enlistment ceremony.

“There is no event grand enough to adequately capture our gratitude for the millions of heroes who laid down their lives defending our freedom, but this parade will be a fitting tribute to the service, sacrifice, and selflessness of all who have worn the uniform,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement. She added that the cost would be shared by the Army and the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission.

June 14 is Trump’s 79th birthday. He wanted to preside over a military parade in his first term, but encountered opposition. Some of his previous advisers had urged him against a military parade, and city officials had raised concerns about the tanks tearing up city streets.

John Bolton, the president’s former national security adviser, said Trump was determined to have a military parade after seeing a Bastille Day event in Paris. Trump’s advisers told him that the U.S. doesn’t do “military parades unless there is a reason,” Bolton said.

“The arguments that finally convinced him not to was that if you run tanks down the streets of Washington, you’re going to rip the streets up. The cost and the repair and the discombobulation will irritate people,” Bolton said.

In 1991, tanks and troops paraded through Washington to honor the military’s victory in the Gulf War.

Trump will also hold an event in Washington on July 4 to celebrate Independence Day, the pitch says. At the event, Trump plans to unveil several national initiatives, including the “Great America State Fair” and the “Patriot Games,” according to the donor pitch. There will be concerts and a presidential speech.

Trump is currently fundraising for a constellation of groups, including his PAC, a presidential library and the celebration next year.

“We have the Olympics and the World Cup. And we have something that maybe surpasses everything, the 250th anniversary of our country. So, that’s going to be great,” Trump said recently at the White House. “That’s going to be a very big event, a yearlong event.”

Bolton said there was a “seemliness question” of parading the military around and pitching donors on events related to the military.

“I don’t think that will bother the Trump White House,” Bolton said.

AG Pam Bondi has the power to revoke green cards at any time, Justice Department claims

So what happens to people's property/ possessions in the US if their green card gets pulled and then ICE grabs them, holds them for weeks on end without contact to anyone before deporting them to some random location? I'm assuming the government doesn’t ship them their stuff or compensate them for lost property? Do they just lose everything not in a bank account?

Getting dragged out of your home by ICE and shipped to some other country is tough enough. Imagine arriving involuntarily at an airport and having to start over with potentially nothing you own and no chance to prepare. A green card holder may even own a house, buisiness and other property, if they cant arrange a sale of assets, that's all sitting abandoned or confiscated by state/federal government or the bank maybe...?

Am I missing something here? How is this American?

It is completely valid. If you have dabbled in rationalist circles Mencius Moldbug (Curtis Yarvin) is not a new name or an unknown quantity. Those articles describe the dark enlightenment accurately. This is a somewhat recent interview with the NYT that I recommend watching/listening to.

Keep in mind that all of the data Musk has been stealing is going to Palantir, who is owned by Peter Theil. Yarvin is Theil's self-described "philosopher".

They are building as Edward Snowden calls it the "architecture of oppression". Data that was kept separate to prevent abuse is now being pulled together with no oversight. Its something to be taken seriously.

How much did the US have to spend on those trinkets and diamonds to make them useful for only a couple of years before decommissioning them?
Arguing with him and showing the differences isn't going to impact his view any.

He found a Facebook post that says he can ignore it because there were gifts to other presents. Yes it completely ignores the massive differences, but that doesn't matter. He was handed a whatabout argument and is happy he has some BS to fall back on so he can continue his love affair with the orange one.

I agree Project2025 is, on its face, more religiously influenced/focused. I view that as a means to gain support vs actual basis.

My personal opinion is theres a good chance Project2025 is just approach to achieve Dark Enlightenment, that once complete and long term power has been gained the rest will probably come to fruition.

They have a lot of overlap, but there are different interests pursuing them. Its the crypto tech bros angling for the dark enlightenment, while it is the heritage foundation christian nationalists pushing project 2025. They dont have the same exact goals, but are working together on the goals that do overlap.
