Did Trump not hear that Apple is moving production of its phones from China to India, rather than the U. S.? Once again, with tariffs on China so high and manufacturing needing so much stuff from there, why would a manufacturer want to relocate in the U. S. for that reason alone? To attract manufacturing it would be somewhat less irrational for Trump to demand the minimum wage be abolished, though I doubt many people would want to work in a factory for less than $7.25 an hour.
It would be a wiser experiment to see what happens by dropping tariffs to zero, eliminate corporate income tax and make up for lost revenue by raising individual income taxes on the wealthy. Of course, Musk would demand keeping high tariffs on electric cars from China.
Speaking of the wealthy, it's okay for them to buy gold from China. No tariff on that.
