Trump 47

Florida’s “hanging chads” ballot controversy riveted the nation during the 2000 presidential contest and later prompted Congress to create an independent commission to help states update their voting equipment.

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission has operated in relative anonymity since, but is now central to President Donald Trump’sexecutive order seeking to overhaul elections. One of the commission’s boards will meet Thursday in North Carolina, the first commission-related meeting since the directives were announced.

Among other things, Trump directed the agency to update the national voter registration form to add a proof of citizenship requirement. But whether the president can order an independent agency to act and whether the commission has the authority to do what Trump wants will likely be settled in court.

Congress approved the Help America Vote Act in 2002 to help states replace outdated voting systems and improve the voting experience.

Trump wants to put his own stamp on elections

Trump has long been skeptical of how elections are run, making false claims that the 2020 election was “rigged” against him. Multiple reviews of that election confirmed his loss to Democrat Joe Biden.

He has continued to criticize voting processes since his win last November, including in his March 25 executive order, which calls for major changes that include a proof-of-citizenship requirement when people register to vote for federal elections.

While Trump directed several federal agencies to act, two of the order’s major provisions were directed at the Election Assistance Commission.

It was instructed to “take appropriate action” within 30 days to require documentary proof of citizenship on the national voter registration form. The order outlines acceptable documents as a U.S. passport, a REAL-ID compliant driver’s license or official military ID that “indicates the applicant is a citizen,” or a government-issued photo ID accompanied by proof of citizenship.

It also directed the commission to “take all appropriate action to cease” federal money for any state that fails to use the form that includes the proof-of-citizenship requirement, though a handful of states are exempt under federal law. Trump also wants the commission to revise standards for voting systems.

Election experts have said the changes are unrealistic given the process outlined in federal law, which includes reviews by advisory groups and a period for public comment. The last major update to the voluntary guidelines for voting systems took years and was approved by the commission in 2021.

“It’s practically impossible to demand that commissioners of the EAC create wholly new voting system guidelines based on highly questionable criteria within 180 days,” said David Becker, a former Justice Department lawyer who leads the Center for Election Innovation & Research. “It raises the question as to whether this was designed to create chaos since it cannot be practically and competently completed.”

Lawsuits say the commission is independent and not subject to Trump’s orders

Trump’s executive order has prompted lawsuits by voting rights groups, the Democratic Party and Democratic elected officials in 21 states. They say the president is exceeding his authority under the Constitution.

Venezuela investigates "forced disappearance" of its citizen by the US which the US can't tell anyone where he is now OR where they deported him too.

The Last time anyone talked to him, he was in a Max Security facility in Texas

Ricardo Prada, who worked as a deliveryman in the city of Detroit, was arrested in January as part of the Trump administration's mass immigration crackdown.

In March, Prada informed a friend he was being held at a maximum security facility in Texas, "after which his whereabouts are unknown," the public prosecutor's office in Caracas said in a statement.

The US has deported more than 250 Venezuelans to El Salvador, which is being paid by Washington to hold them in a notoriously harsh maximum security facility built to house gang members.

The prosecutors' office, citing an article in the New York Times, said Prada was not in that group.

According to the newspaper, US authorities have said they deported Prada without revealing where to.
Shocked by this.

But not by this?

That was an awful failure of government as well.

The difference, IMO, being one situation appears to have been as a result of gross negligence and the other situation appears to be intentional.

You're not excusing or minimizing the new situation by what-abouting with the old situation, are you? Just so I'm clear.
Not minimizing, just want to be clear why all the hand wringing over 1 but none over hundreds of thousands.
Could it be because of the president involved?

And allowing all those children unaccompanied into the country was nothing but intentional.

You say you're not minimizing or excusing, but calling caring about the new situation "hand-wringing" is definitely minimizing the severity of the issue, Rob.

And you haven't proven that there was no concern about or over the first situation because I saw a whole bunch of reports and concern about the first situation when it happened.

You say you're not minimizing or excusing, but calling caring about the new situation "hand-wringing"....sounds a helluva lot like minimizing, Rob.

And you haven't proven that there was no concern about or over the first situation because I saw a whole bunch of reports and concern about the first situation when it happened.
Show me 1 time where Polds posted anything about the missing children and I'll happily STFU, I searched for a long time before I posted.
Just a reminder, that's who you decided to reply for.

So your comment about not caring about the new situation with Trump was directed at a single poster rather than the general population, others on this board, or folks that may be to the left of you politically?

So when you said,

just want to be clear why all the hand wringing over 1 but none over hundreds of thousands.

you were talking about a single poster on a single board. Do I have that right?

And any posts about missing unaccompanied children would have been on the old board when it was actually reported in the media.

I could have some clarity about exactly what your position with regards to the examples and their respective severity is if you'd just come right out and say what you think about them like I did.....and will again.

My position is as follows:

Both are awful failures of government by two different administrations. The failures or conduct of the Biden administration do not justify, minimize, or excuse the failures or conduct of the Trump administration.

Agree or disagree, friend?

I think you know exactly the point I was making to Polds and just decided to white knight on in to try and flip the script.

Now hush up and gimme those zzz's. ❤️

I clearly didn't. And you could easily clear it up for me. If you tell me you were speaking to a single, solitary poster on a single, solitary board rather than trying to make a larger point, I'll accept that as true and move along.

It would also be helpful if you'd respond to this as well instead of avoiding it.

"My position is as follows:

I mean.....it'd really only involve typing one more word so I could definitely understand both your actual position/opinion with regards to the two acts.

And I only give you zzz's when you truly earn them. I also like a good number of your posts....when you earn those. ♥️

It can't pass the AP Fact Check either

Missing Children...OR missing Paperwork? I have not Doubt they have lost track of some kids. I alos have no doubt they have lost lots more paperwork than actual Children.

Since they are still "Lost" what is the Trump admin doing now to find them ?

In Nov 2024 (5 MONTHS ago)

ICE was called upon by the Dept of Homeland Security (5 MONTHS ago) to investigate and ensure the kids are found and safe

What has the Trump team done post Biden to continue the search and update on this ?

Under Joe Biden, Have 85,000 Undocumented Children Gone 'Missing'? Yet another Failed Fact Check

The Source of the Story
A Facebook post by former U.S. senatorial candidate Peggy Hubbard, posted on 11 July, 2023, read: "85,000 + illegal migrant children have gone 'missing' according to DHS Since Biden took office. MSM [mainstream media] didn't report on this fact, why?"

To start, the figure appears to be sourced from a New York Times article, published in February 2023, about migrant children working in jobs that violate labor laws.

The article states that in 2022 there were 130,000 unaccompanied minors who entered the U.S., "three times what it was five years earlier". Although unaccompanied, these minors were not children who had been "stolen into the country undetected" the article read.

It added: "The federal government knows they are in the United States, and the Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for ensuring sponsors will support them and protect them from trafficking or exploitation."

The Times report also included figures attributed to the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) about monitoring checks carried out on all unaccompanied minors who'd been homed after entering the U.S.

This is where the 85,000 "missing" figure appears to have come from.

"While H.H.S. checks on all minors by calling them a month after they begin living with their sponsors, data obtained by The Times showed that over the last two years, the agency could not reach more than 85,000 children," the article read.

"Overall, the agency lost immediate contact with a third of migrant children."

Looks like Polds is able to answer for himself. I wasn't white knighting him and didn't need to.

You still haven't clarified whether your "hand-wringing" claim was directed at Polds alone or was an attempt to make a larger point about folks that might be more liberal than you though. If you were directing the "hand-wringing" commentary at Polds only, he has fully responded.

It can't pass the AP Fact Check either

Seems his response is that you gullibly feel for MAGA propaganda without doing further research into the facts alleged.

You might want to respond to that. I'm interested in the ensuing conversation.

Up to you though.

I'd also really appreciate a response to this question as well. It's not an attempt to flip the script. It's a genuine desire to know the exact position you're taking.

The fact these kids sponsors started losing contact and it went 4 YEARS unreported is infuriating to me.

Both Biden and Trump Failed and their admins failed these kids miserably and this should be one of the top priorities for any admin right now ....but Biden and his admin down played it and Trump only cared about it on the campaign trail...but Trump had No room to speak out about it

Because the original Homeland Security Report uncovering it and published in 2023 clearly states the issue with the US Govt sponsors losing immediate contact with migrant children STARTED IN 2019 when (checks notes). DONALD TRUMP was POTUS and as of the report being published in Summer 2023 stated the Biden admin hadn't fixed

By Nov 2024 Homeland Security was calling on ICE to still address it

But u know..issue started under Trump, continued throughout all of Biden and now continues still under Trump.....all Biden

'Resign immediately': Trump's business fires Prominent Republican lawyer serving as ethics adviser

President Donald Trump has ended his business relationship with a Republican attorney representing Harvard University in a dispute over billions in federal grant money.

On Thursday, the Trump Organization's Eric Trump confirmed to CNN that the company had cut ties with Bill Burck after the president unloaded an angry rant about him on Truth Social.

"Harvard is an Anti-Semitic, Far Left Institution, as are numerous others, with students being accepted from all over the World that want to rip our Country apart," Donald Trump wrote. "Harvard is a threat to Democracy, with a lawyer, who represents me, who should therefore be forced to resign, immediately, or be fired. He's not that good, anyway, and I hope that my very big and beautiful company, now run by my sons, gets rid of him ASAP!"

Apparently, Eric Trump, head of the Trump Organization, was paying attention to his father's wishes because he quickly moved to sever the business relationship with Burck.

"I view it as a conflict and I will be moving in a different direction," he insisted on Thursday.

The company had retained Burck in January as an outside ethics adviser.
