You are comparing an overseas military operation to justice in the US court system? Bin Laden died in a US military operation approved by the president and congress with the AUMF. There is no requirement for due process in overseas combat against an enemy combatant. if there was combat would be completely ineffective.
I wasn't comparing them, and I don't think he deserved due process. I was just genuinely curious if the US found him guilty in a court of law. I did a search and found this article, which I found interesting.

I understand that, but he should still face the immigration consequences of his violent crime.

A pardon doesn’t change his immigration status or the fact that he committed the crimes that could lead to his deportation.
I guess there's what the law says you can do and what's the right thing to do. In this instance I don't believe deporting him is the right thing to do.

I live in Little Cambodia in LB btw. These folks can COOK.

That’s certainly a policy decision that anyone is entitled to have an opinion on that someone else can disagree with.

Yes, my personal opinion is that it is unfortunate that a guy like this is getting deported. From a policy standpoint, I understand it. It would be very hard to create a reasonable policy that a person who commits a serious crime gets to stay if he has rehabbed enough.

And to me this is the crux of bringing back Garcia. I 100% think he should be returned along with anyone else who was in a protected/adjudicated status (this includes anyone who was awaiting an asylum court date and was not under pending charges for other matters). I also don’t have a problem with any of the 238 facing consequences for any crimes they committed in accordance with US law and sentencing guidelines (not a life sentence in a gulag in El Salvador). I think we opened a Pandora’s box w the Alien Enemies Act.

In Garcia’s case return him. Investigate the allegations, charge him if necessary and if found guilty subject him to the appropriate penalties.

I would go a little further than you with Garcia.

Protected/adjudicated status is subject to change as well. In Garcia’s case, if his actions since his adjudication have changed his status, I’m okay with deporting him after he has a fair and impartial hearing on the issue.

I imagine my policy position on deportations in general is more conservative than many here.

Any felony conviction….violent or non-violent…and certain enumerated misdemeanors like domestic violence or drunk driving…should make an undocumented, unapproved foreign national subject to mandatory deportation. Not to be held in an El Salvadoran gulag indefinitely though. Deportation is a civil matter, not a criminal one with a life sentence.

Some might consider that a very odd position to have for a raging partisan liberal like a few here have called me. *shoulder shrug*

How does one even ATTEMPT to hold a conversation with someone that's bought in to MAGA so hard that they've convinced themselves that the US constitution ONLY applies to citizens? Like ALL of it... Honestly asking because this person is someone I previously held a lot respect for growing up but this is ridiculous...

8 of the 39 original people who signed the Constitution of the United States...were foreign born immigrants who had become US citizens

You can't, that person has been drinking the Newsmax kool-aid and is beyond hope.

Good article. If Garcia actually said those things during the meeting, I'm surprised they allowed that. And the message he's making here needs to be made loud enough to drown out the gaslighting by this admin and it's supporters. This isn't about Garcia, it's about the rights granted to all of us in the constitution, even the rights which are allowed to non-citizens. If they can pick up and ship off Garcia to El Salvador with no due process, they can do it to any of us.

This is what happens when the main qualification for a key role is fealty to a person and not the ability to perform the job competently. This guy is a real liability to our nation and is becoming one to the current administration. The bad thing is I doubt hes replaced by anyone better because 99.9% of the people we have who are qualified to be Defense Secretary care more about the country than Trump and that is a non starter for this administration.

'Full-blown meltdown at the Pentagon': Hegseth reportedly 'unlikely to remain in his role'

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who has been mired in controversy since Donald Trump first nominated him, is now "unlikely to remain in his role," according to his own former department spokesperson on Sunday.

The report includes "remarkable accusations" from a former Hegseth aide and comes the same day as it was reported that the Secretary was involved in a second unsecured Signal chat in which sensitive attack plans were shared. Hegseth was mocked for the reported security misstep.

In a piece entitled, "Former Pentagon official warns department’s dysfunction could topple Hegseth," Politico quotes John Ullyot, the former top Defense Department spokesperson, as saying, "The last month has been a full-blown meltdown at the Pentagon."

"The Pentagon is in 'total chaos' and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is unlikely to remain in his role, according to its former top spokesperson, who painted a scene of dysfunction, backstabbing and continuous missteps at the highest levels of the department," according to the report.

It further quotes Ullyot as saying, "The building is in disarray under Hegseth’s leadership ... The dysfunction is now a major distraction for the president — who deserves better from his senior leadership."

The report goes on to say, "Ullyot, who resigned from the Pentagon last week, described a department in collapse."

"He accused Hegseth’s team of 'falsehoods' about why three top officials were fired last week, saying they hadn’t leaked sensitive information to the media. He chastised Pentagon officials for how they handled revelations that Hegseth shared sensitive military information in a Signal chat, and he pointed to other leaks that caused embarrassment to the administration," the weekend report states. "The remarkable accusations by a former official — who left only two days ago and insists he still supports the Trump administration’s national security policies — underscores the infighting and upheaval that has turned increasingly public in recent weeks."

Americans Should Get 'Reparations' Over Migration, White House Suggests

The White House deputy chief of staff has suggested that Americans should be paid reparations "for the damages inflicted by mass migration."

Stephen Miller made the remarks during an interview with Newsmax on Friday, in which he hit back at suggestions from Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse that the government should be fined over the wrongful deportation of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia to El Salvador.

What To Know

Miller made the comments about reparations during a discussion about the ongoing saga of Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March.

Whitehouse has suggested that a federal judge could put the government under a "civil contempt sanction" and be fined a $1 million a day, some of which could be given to Abrego Garcia.

"For the love of God, where are the damages for Americans?" Miller told Newsmax in response to questions about Whitehouse's proposal.

Miller went on to list various issues facing the country, all of which he blamed on illegal migration, including issues with the public education system, drug-related deaths, gang violence and violent crime.

He claimed, without evidence, that "open borders" had damaged the public school system in the country, stating: "Nobody's learning how to read or write. An entire generation of Americans, multiple generations, in fact, have been robbed of educational opportunities."

He also blamed immigration for gang violence in Los Angeles, fentanyl-related deaths, and crimes including "ambush attacks" against police officers.

"There aren't enough volumes that could fit into a library to calculate the carnage that has been inflicted by the Democratic Party's policy of open borders," he said.

Stephen Miller on Newsmax: "Where does our whole country go to get repaid for all of the wealth, all of the prosperity and security that has been stolen from us by decades of uncontrolled illegal mass migration? Because we all deserve reparations for what has been stolen from us."
