This Weekend

Northern Iowa and Iowa State are coming to town this weekend. Blackout tonight vs Northern Iowa. They are always a strong team, but this dual should not be close. In my opinion, if Jax goes tonight then he will get his red shirt pulled. Iowa State might be the best team we have all year. This dual on Sunday will be packed with high level wrestling. We will see the biggest test of the year for Jax, Vega, Doucett and Merrill. Get out to GIA if you can this weekend.

Hope that IF Jax wrestles only once this weekend, it is on Sunday.

My thinking is that he has used 3 of his 5 allowed dates as a red shirt. Iowa State and Iowa are the obvious times to use the other two because they both have a 133 that would be favored over anyone else we have, and it could have a big impact on team score. They can beat Northern Iowa without Jax, so I believe if he goes tonight against Northern Iowa then he's going to nationals.

On top of team points, if he only wrestles against ISU and Iowa, those are two likely big attendance home dual opportunities to get the crowd jazzed up and ready to sell more tickets for the next 4 years.

Troy with the decision

Jax gets the tech fall; sort of answers the redshirt question

Vega with the MD

Casey with the decision

Landon with the MD

19-0 headed to intermission

Good dual for the Cowboys last night. Everyone won except for Ryder. He needs to be more offensive, but the injury really cost hurt in that match. I do not know anything about his status for Sunday. Jax and Doucet were standouts with a tech fall and a fall respectively. Doucet seemed to have some opportunities early but did not fully go for shots. He picked up the aggression and ended the dual with a pin. The upper weights struggle to score, but are really tough on the mat.

Iowa State on Sunday:
Spratley vs Poulin - Poulin is ranked 13th and is very good. Spratley is the favorite, but this is a tough match and would be a good win.
Forrest vs Frost - Frost is ranked 4th. This would be Jax's best win.
Vega vs Echemendia - Echemendia is ranked 3rd. This is Vega's toughest test. Echemendia is very strong. Vega is a better scrabler and better on the mat. Vega will need to match his strength.
Swiderski vs Frost - Frost is ranked 6th. It seems like Swiderski has been improving a little lately. This would be a big win to get him back in the AA conversation.
Robideau vs Zerban - Zerban is ranked number 8 and is a very tricky wrestler.
Lockett vs Euton - This is one that Lockett needs to dominate. These are needed team points.
Facundo vs Gaitan - Gaitan is willing to be a little risky. Facundo needs to stay solid and get this win.
Ryder vs Dean - This has the makings of an overtime match.
Merrill vs Elam - Elam is ranked number 2. Merrill will have a difficult time scoring. It will be interesting to see how Merrill does on top vs Elam. Elam's length could be a problem.
Docuet vs Bastida - Bastida is the number one ranked heavy weight. Doucet will need to keep this low scoring and capitalize on any opportunity that he has to score.

Like your writeup.

ISU heavy favorites at 197 and 285. We are solid favorites at 125, 165, and 174. Rest I view as toss ups.

If you are David Taylor, what weight would you prefer to start the dual? Ending with Iowa State as heavy favorites means we need to get a team lead early.

Troy gets it started with a decision

Jax doesn’t face Frost; puts on a master class of turns and wins by tech fall vs backup

Vega pulls of win with late takedown; had the feel of a ncaa semifinal match
