Sam Houston State Bearkats @ Oklahoma State Cowboys game thread

A lifelong friend from Pawnee has said many times that Roy is the one with a "me, not the team" attitude. He doesn't celebrate with his teammates, and only shows any type of emotion when he scores. Watch him closely in games and you'll see what the assistant on the staff -- errr .. my friend -- means.
Is that your same source that says we never attempted to contact a HC?

Your friend would obviously know far better than I, but I will say after the last game Roy was really into celebrating with the students on the baseline. After the handshake line he flew over to the south baseline and high-fived every student he could reach. I know he hates being yanked after poor shot selection and isn't hiding it, but he also seems to take the coaching to heart. I think he really likes winning, and who wouldn't after what he sat through last season in Green Bay. Hopefully he's learning what it takes to win at this level, which is so much more than just putting the ball in the hole. Although that's a very refreshing change for us fans.

Also, let me add it's really great to see our assistant coaches having apparently meaningful input during the games. Has your lifelong friend noticed this (if it's true)?

Snowflakes and drama queens maybe, most do a little self reflection situational evaluation, dust themselves off and press on.
I'm not sure that belittling, Bobby Knight stuff works anymore. College basketball coaches have to be nails sometimes, sure, but I think the successful ones really care about the well-being of their players. Matt Painter, Jon Scheyer, Kelvin Sampson, and so on are all considered players' coaches. Brad Underwood might be more of a throwback to the Knight era.

Not disputing anything Stargazer posted but my observations match yours. Roy definitely plays like he knows he’s good. But he also points to players who assist his made baskets. He also laughs and interacts w players pregame and coming out of half. I’ve also noticed how he reacts on the bench when players make 3s or break away dunks. He seems to be enjoying it here.

Trouble w today’s portal era is that we are going to lose games and face tough wins in conference. It’s easy to smile at 8-0 w no road games but when you face a 2-3 game losing streak or lose 2 out of 4 games in conference and have to go on the road for an 8 pm tip in freezing weather how will you respond w your teammates and coaches.

Nah, man, it’s all about the buckets.
